"Does he see a warship more important than a man's life? Isn't the blind here a person and not a citizen of the country?

This is the tearful words of Miss Genevieve Caulfield, or our "ma'am," an American blind teacher who came across the sea to Siam more than 80 years ago.

Just to plant a tree of hope where no one would think to sow seed...Do what no one thinks to do, build a blind school in Thailand.

The tears of foreign women who see the value of the blind Thai "are more obvious than the Thais themselves.

On the day when adults in the city say, "There is no budget for the blind to buy a warship," on the day when society looks at the blind, no different from a table or a chair that is insensitive, unable to teach.

But, ma'am, I see differently...She fought a spy, fought the insult "can't do it," fought with the mildest tenacity until she became a Bangkok blind school.

As a blind person in modern times, I realized

If that day there wasn't this blind woman crying for us,

I wouldn't have Braille to read today, no job, and no right to choose my life path.

December 12th, this space commemorates "Ma'am Caulfield," who gave us light with a heart, who made us stand on this planet as equal humans.
