We used to understand the word "dancing" as the art of vision.

Look at the teacher, look at the rhythm, look at the person in front, and then move the body.

But when I got the opportunity to be part of the Dance Creative Video Production Program to improve mobility skills and strengthen confidence for the visually impaired of the Association of Blind Persons, I realized that dancing may never be a matter of the eyes, but of listening, perceiving and trusting my body.

My job that day was to be a "puppet," a middleman who helped teachers who were good-looking to convey gestures through explanations to see if the audience understood and moved correctly.

For good-eyed people, learning to dance may start by looking and following.

For the blind, teaching relies on detailed, precise language and understanding of body movements.

Setting a position on the ground, using a balloon rod placed as a reference point, so that the learner knows where they are, does not step out of the space, and can perceive direction at any time.

The direction of movement is used in a clockwise way, such as "cross your left leg to 2 o'clock." A short sentence allows the learner to imagine the position and move correctly.

The day I joined was filming episode six, the last part of the project.

That lesson was Cha Cha Cha.

Fast, fun, and relying on the relationship of balance, listening, and body response at every step, it may seem like a dance, but in fact, it is learning to trust your body again.

I like the intention of this project because each video not only gives the blind an exercise position, but also allows the blind to discover new forms of movement, enjoy exercise more, and dare to move their bodies confidently.

Previously, the same team also produced Pilates videos for the blind, using the same subtitle method. Interestingly, although designed for the blind, good-eyed people can follow the voice without watching the screen to follow.

After all,

Dancing may not be the most beautiful thing, but it is the ability to move in your own way, and when someone intends to design learning so that everyone can move along, whether they see or do not see, the world seems a little more gentle.
