Have you ever opened the app? Look at the S & P 500 port, see a green number plus 10%, but when you withdraw the money in baht...The principal has disappeared!
It's not an app, but this is "money risk." 📉
Because investing in American stocks is playing two stacking games at once: 1️⃣ the stock game: winning the S & P 500 chart 2️⃣ the currency game: winning the soft baht (or at least not the ugly hard).
Let's take an example of this to be clear: let's invest $100,000 (when rated at $36 / dollar) over a year, the stock is up 10% (the portfolio is $3,054), 🎉 but...On the day of withdrawal, the baht was frozen to 32 baht / dollar, multiplied to only 97,728 baht! 😱 (The stock almost died, and then the principal disappeared for more than 2 thousand baht!)
Solution for Thai? ✅ Hedge Fund: Willing to pay a little extra fee to exchange comfort ✅ long to forget (Long-term DCA): If you hold 10-20 years, the short-term value will average.
💡 Summary: Before the next stock purchase, don't just look at the stock chart, look at the baht chart, because your enemy doesn't just have a bear market, but also a "baht"!

จากประสบการณ์ตรงที่ผมได้ลงทุนหุ้นต่างประเทศมาระยะหนึ่ง นอกจากการติดตามกราฟหุ้นและผลตอบแทนรายปีแล้ว ผมยังพบว่า "ค่าเงิน" เป็นองค์ประกอบสำคัญที่หลายคนมองข้ามไปมาก ในหลายครั้งที่พอร์ตหุ้นดูเขียวสวยงาม การแปลงมูลค่ากลับเป็นเงินบาทกลับทำให้เราเห็นภาพที่ตรงกันข้ามอย่างน่าตกใจ เพราะค่าเงินบาทที่แข็งค่าขึ้นเมื่อเทียบกับดอลลาร์ จะกลายเป็นตัวลดทอนผลกำไรหรือแม้กระทั่งทำให้ขาดทุนได้ ตัวอย่างที่ชัดเจนคือ เมื่อเราลงทุนในช่วงที่ค่าเงินบาทอ่อนค่าหน่อย และผ่านไปหุ้นขึ้น 10% แต่ถ้าวันถอนเงินบาทแข็งค่าขึ้นมาก เราจะได้เงินคืนในสกุลบาทน้อยกว่าที่ลงทุนไปแม้หุ้นจะบวกอยู่ดี จึงทำให้ผมเรียนรู้ว่า นักลงทุนหุ้นนอกควรมองภาพทั้ง 2 ด้าน คือ ด้านหุ้นและด้านอัตราแลกเปลี่ยน (ค่าเงิน) ไปพร้อมกัน ไม่ใช่ดูแต่เพียงราคาหุ้นอย่างเดียว นอกจากนี้ การเลือกกองทุนที่มีการป้องกันความเสี่ยงค่าเงิน (Hedging) แม้อาจมีค่าธรรมเนียมสูงขึ้น แต่ก็แลกมาซึ่งความเสี่ยงที่ลดลง และความสบายใจที่มากขึ้นในการลงทุน อีกเทคนิคที่ผมใช้คือการลงทุนแบบ DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) หรือทยอยลงทุนเป็นระยะเวลานาน เพื่อให้ค่าเงินบาทที่มีความผันผวนสูงนั้นถูกถัวเฉลี่ยออกไปในระยะยาว สุดท้ายนี้ นักลงทุนควรติดตามแนวโน้มค่าเงินบาทอย่างใกล้ชิด โดยสำรวจข้อมูลข่าวสารทางเศรษฐกิจระหว่างประเทศประกอบด้วย เพราะค่าเงินไม่ได้ขึ้นลงแค่ปัจจัยภายในประเทศ แต่มีผลมาจากข่าวสารและเหตุการณ์ทั่วโลกด้วย สรุปได้ว่า การลงทุนหุ้นต่างประเทศให้ประสบความสำเร็จไม่ใช่แค่เรื่องการเลือกหุ้นที่ดีเท่านั้น แต่ต้องเข้าใจและวางแผนรับมือกับ "กับดักค่าเงิน" อย่างมีสติและรอบคอบ เพื่อให้พอร์ตของเรานั้น "เขียวจริง" เมื่อแปลงกลับเป็นเงินบาทด้วยเช่นกัน
