A Little Bite of Heaven

I think plain scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam need more recognition. It is so delicious and so simple to make. Perfect with tea or coffee.

I use Paul Hollywood's scone recipe, bc the Queen said it was the best scone she's ever had. I also use the clotted cream recipe from all.recipes.com. I had no idea, but clotted cream is just one ingredient: heavy cream. Place it in the oven over night on a low setting, and then whip it in the morning.

Heaven.

I followed the Paul Hollywood scone recipe mentioned here, and it really is impressive how the simplicity of ingredients can yield such a tender, crumbly texture. One tip I found helpful is ensuring your butter is very cold before mixing the dough, which helps create light, flaky layers. Also, avoid over-mixing the batter to keep the scones soft. Baking them on a middle rack gives even heat distribution. About clotted cream – I was surprised to learn it requires just heavy cream slowly heated in the oven overnight. I tried this method by placing cream in a shallow pan on the lowest oven setting and leaving it for about 12 hours. The next morning, when gently whipped, the cream became luxuriously thick and rich, perfectly complementing the scones. As for strawberry jam, using homemade or high-quality preserves makes a big difference. The freshness contrasts beautifully with the creaminess of the clotted cream and the warmth of freshly baked scones. Serving this trio with a pot of strong English breakfast tea or a smooth coffee creates a moment of pure bliss. It’s simple yet feels indulgent, perfect for gatherings or a quiet afternoon treat. The royal endorsement adds a fun touch, but honestly, the flavor stands wonderfully on its own. If you’re looking to try something classic and comforting, this combination is a must. Plus, making clotted cream at home is simpler than you might expect, bringing an authentic touch to your teatime that’s sure to impress family and friends.
