CHRONICLES OF A NEW WIDOW
CHRONICLES OF A NEW WIDOW
Entry 2
I am a widow now. My 20-year marriage ended on December 30, 2024, when my beloved husband, Anthony, answered the call to go home to live with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
That night, after returning home from the hospital for the last time as Anthony’s wife, I found myself staring at my wedding ring. The question lingered in my heart: What do I do with my ring? Should I keep wearing it on my left hand as if we’re still happily married? Or do I make a change?
Today marks three weeks since my husband’s passing, yet it feels like an eternity. The days are unbearably long, the nights feel impossibly dark, and memories of him overwhelm me when I least expect it.
This morning, after much reflection, I’ve decided to move my wedding ring from my left hand to my right. For me, this gesture symbolizes my transition into widowhood while honoring the love and bond we shared for 20 years. My teenaged daughter worries I’m moving too quickly, but ultimately, this is a deeply personal decision—one only I can make.
I still feel married. Twenty years is a lifetime to build a love that can’t just be let go. Moving the ring doesn’t change my heart—it’s simply a step in this heartbreaking journey I never wanted to take.
