Have you noticed what’s normalized is not always beneficial to what uplifts our culture … 💊, violence and objectifying women is not okay but sometimes it seems to be pushed to the forefront. Let’s do better 👏🏾
In my personal journey, I've seen how deeply normalized negative behaviors, especially in entertainment and social circles, influence perceptions and cultural attitudes. For example, songs and media that frequently mention drugs and violence not only reflect but also reinforce these as acceptable or even glamorous parts of our culture. This normalization can lead young people down destructive paths, causing harm to individuals and communities alike. One compelling thought is why it has become so common for artists to include drug and violent themes in their work — is it because audiences expect it, or because it sells? This cycle perpetuates what was highlighted in the article: the normalized portrayal of harmful behaviors that ultimately damage cultural progress. What if, instead, we celebrated artists who consciously choose to avoid these themes and focus on more positive messages? Leading by example might be the best step toward changing these norms. I've personally started paying more attention to the content I consume and share, encouraging my friends to do the same. Small choices, like supporting music and media that uplift and inspire rather than degrade or normalize harmful behavior, can make a big difference. As the content mentions, it's not just about rejecting drugs or violence, but about redefining what is considered 'normal' culture — by setting ourselves apart and supporting art and messages that foster growth, respect, and true cultural enrichment. Ultimately, the call to action is clear: let's lead with awareness and purpose to uplift our culture. Recognizing that some norms no longer serve us is the first step to meaningful change. By normalizing positive expressions and rejecting those that cause harm, we can create a safer, healthier cultural environment for everyone.
