New Job!

Starting a new job is such a whirlwind of emotions – excitement, nerves, and so much to learn! For me, landing this marketing position at a hardware distribution company truly feels like an an answered prayer. After all the interviews and anticipation, finally walking through those doors on day one was a huge milestone. I wanted to share a bit more about my initial experience and some tips that might help if you're embarking on your own "new job, new life" adventure! My first day was all about getting acquainted with the office and setting up for a big trade show. It was a casual day, which was a relief. I opted for comfort and practicality – think a cozy grey hooded sweatshirt, my favorite blue jeans, and trusty white sneakers. It felt perfect for carrying boxes and getting hands-on with displays. The first "mirror selfie" with my new ID badge felt like a rite of passage! It’s funny how getting that official badge makes everything feel so real. Day two brought a surprising and fun twist: it was baseball-themed! I loved that the company embraced such a unique way to build team spirit, especially during a busy trade show week. I swapped my grey hoodie for a light blue graphic t-shirt representing my favorite team, paired with a comfy grey cardigan, black pants, and my go-to sneakers. It was a great way to bond with new colleagues over a shared love for the game, even if we were just "repping our favorite teams." It really showed me the relaxed and friendly culture here, which is such a bonus when you’re navigating a new environment. For anyone starting a marketing job, or any new role for that matter, here are a few things I've found helpful in these first few days: Embrace the Learning Curve: Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if they seem basic. Everyone expects you to learn, and it shows you're engaged. Observe and Listen: Pay attention to how people interact, the unspoken rules, and the workflow. This helps you understand the company culture faster. Be Proactive: If you finish a task, ask if there’s anything else you can help with. Showing initiative goes a long way. Network Internally: Introduce yourself to people outside your immediate team. Building connections early can be incredibly beneficial. Dress for the Day: As my first two days showed, understanding the daily agenda can influence your attire. Always have a few versatile "work clothes" options ready! Comfort is key when you're on your feet, especially at events like a trade show. Document Everything: Keep a notebook for new processes, names, and key information. It’s impossible to remember everything at once. Overall, my first week has been fantastic. Getting to contribute to a "hardware distribution company" in a marketing capacity is exciting, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.
