My Current Reads 🫶🏻

Okay, so I usually stick to one book at a time, but this time I've thrown caution to the wind and I'm really enjoying the adventure of juggling two incredible stories! It’s actually pretty cool how each book offers a totally different escape, helping to avoid that dreaded reading slump and keeping things fresh. First up is Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan, and honestly, it's an incredible story, beautifully written, and a fine and noble book, just as James Patterson said. I'm only 9% in, but I can already tell this historical fiction set during WWII is going to stick with me. Knowing it's based on the true story of Pino Lella adds such a powerful layer. Imagine being a young Italian, caught in the chaos of war, helping Jews escape over the Alps, only to be forced to enlist as a German soldier and spy for the Allies from within! The moral dilemmas, the danger, the heartbreak – it's all so palpable. If you love stories of courage, resilience, and hidden heroism during wartime, this is absolutely one to pick up. It's not just a romance or a spy thriller; it's a profound look at humanity under immense pressure. Then there’s Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, and oh my goodness, Tracy Wolff wasn't wrong when she called it "the most brutally addictive fantasy I've read in a decade!" I'm almost halfway through, at 49%, and I can barely put it down. This adult fantasy/romantasy is everything you could want: a brutal war college, dragons, dragon riders, and that delicious enemies-to-lovers trope. Violet Sorrengail's journey, forced into a deadly academy, is just captivating. The world-building is fantastic, and the stakes are incredibly high. If you're looking for an action-packed, steamy, and utterly immersive fantasy with powerful dragons and a brooding male lead like Xaden Riorson, you NEED to read this. It’s got political intrigue, surprising secrets, and an undeniable pull that keeps you turning pages way past your bedtime. Reading these two wildly different genres simultaneously has been such a refreshing experience. One minute I'm immersed in the gritty reality of WWII, and the next I'm flying on the back of a dragon with magic and romance. It keeps my mind engaged and prevents me from getting too bogged down in one type of narrative. If you've ever thought about trying to read multiple books, I say go for it!
