... Read moreOur recent family vacation brought an unexpected (and delicious!) adventure: a spontaneous random candy taste test. We love discovering new things, and what better way to do it than by diving into a world of unfamiliar sweets? We hit up a local candy store, aiming to pick out the most intriguing "random food products" with "random flavors" we could find, utterly blind to what we were getting into. It was all about the thrill of the unknown!
First up, the much-talked-about IT'SUGAR DELICIOUS FRUITY O'S. The packaging alone was a riot, proudly declaring "Absolutely No Nutritional Value Added" and humorously stating "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day." The cereal rings themselves were colorful and promised a fun, fruity experience. On first bite, they were exactly what you'd expect from a sugary cereal—crunchy, sweet, and bursting with artificial fruit flavors. They were fun for a few bites, but quickly became a bit overwhelming. We rated them 6 out of 10. A decent novelty, but probably not something we'd crave regularly. Still, a solid entry for "fruity os" enthusiasts looking for a candy version!
Next, we bravely ventured into the efrutti Sweet WATERMELON Splash! gummy candy. These were shaped like tiny watermelons, and the packaging promised a "splash." True to its word, these gummies had liquid centers. I was hoping for a juicy, refreshing burst, but honestly, the liquid inside was just… weird. It didn't taste like watermelon, and the texture combination was quite off-putting. It was a unanimous 0 out of 10 from our tasting panel. Definitely a miss in the "random flavors" department, proving that sometimes novelty doesn't pay off.
Then came the unexpected hero of the night: RETRO SOURS TANGERINE. This came in a charming round metallic tin with a vibrant orange label. From the moment I popped one in, my taste buds were tingling! These little hard candies delivered an intense, authentic tangerine flavor followed by a perfect pucker-inducing sourness. It was incredibly refreshing and addictive. Everyone agreed, this was a perfect 10 out of 10. Finding such a gem among truly "random candies" felt like winning the lottery! This is definitely a candy I'd seek out again.
Finally, we tackled the much-hyped Silky Gem Crystal Candy Assorted Flavors. This "viral crystal candy" proudly proclaimed to be "Vegan, Gluten-Free," which piqued our interest. The colorful crystal candies looked beautiful, almost too pretty to eat. However, the taste and texture were a letdown. It was essentially hardened sugar syrup with a very subtle, almost bland, flavor. The "silky" part was elusive; it was more like biting into a solid block of sugar. After all the hype, it only managed a 1 out of 5 from us. It looked good for Instagram, but didn't deliver on flavor or experience.
Conducting a "random candy" taste test on a family trip was such a fun way to create memories and discover new treats (and duds!). If you're planning your own, grab a variety of "random food products" – the more obscure, the better! Don't just stick to flavors you know; challenge yourselves with unique "random flavors." Rate them honestly, and share your experiences. It's a fantastic activity that adds a sweet, memorable twist to any gathering or vacation. Who knows what delicious "candies" you might unearth next!
I never get random candy like this to try so I’m definitely inspired by this post to try it out. I feel like my boyfriend would love the cereal candy, he would only eat cereal if he could
