Social Media Burnt Out and Being an Artist

Im going to talk more about this in another post for you guys—- but genuinely hey, hi, hello—- I’ve hit a point where I’m acknowledging that the pressure to post online about how “productive” and “creative” I’m being really does hinder my ability to make art that I’m proud of. I feel like the incline in the usage of social media to expose your art can also work as your biggest hinderance and it’s how A LOT of people end up stagnant in their skill set.

So idk, basically I’m coming to say that even though it may mean i post a bit more sporadically on some socials I would rather sacrifice the online presence than to sacrifice my drive to make things.

How are you???

... Read moreIt’s so true what's said about 'understanding being an art' – especially when you're an artist yourself. Sometimes, I feel like the true essence of my creativity, the deep understanding of my own craft, gets lost in the noise of social media. It's not just about producing a beautiful piece; it's about the journey, the exploration, the mistakes, and the breakthroughs. That internal dialogue, that quiet space where ideas truly form, is what I cherish most. But then comes the pressure – the unspoken demand to translate that deeply personal process into bite-sized, engaging content. It’s a constant battle to maintain that inner sanctuary for creation when the digital world is constantly calling for outward performance. I often think back to times 'when I made this sketch' or painted a canvas purely for myself, without a thought of how it would perform online. Those were moments of pure, unadulterated joy. There was no pressure to craft a catchy caption, choose the perfect hashtag, or worry about engagement rates. It was just me and my art, a direct conversation between my hand and the medium. Now, the moment a brush touches the canvas, a tiny part of my brain starts planning the Reel, the Story, the carousel post. It’s exhausting, right? This internal shift transforms the act of creation from an intimate process into a public performance, and frankly, that's where I start feeling burnt out as an artist because of the pressure to make content ab it for social media. So, how do we get back to that place where understanding our art, and letting our art be understood, isn't dictated by an algorithm? For me, it's been about setting boundaries. It means accepting that some pieces I create might never see the light of day online, and that's perfectly okay. It means consciously stepping away from the endless scroll, taking breaks, and remembering why I started creating in the first place. It's about rediscovering the intrinsic motivation that fuels my passion, rather than relying on external validation. I've found immense peace in dedicating certain days or hours solely to creation, with zero intention of documenting or posting. It's my personal rebellion against the constant pressure to make content ab it for social media. Ultimately, I believe the most profound art comes from a place of authenticity, not obligation. It’s the art that truly speaks to someone because it was created with genuine intent and feeling, not just to go viral. And sometimes, that means accepting that not everyone will 'get' your art, and that's okay. The understanding of art is indeed an art in itself, and it's a deeply personal journey for both the creator and the observer. By prioritizing our mental well-being and our core drive to create, we empower ourselves to make art that we are truly proud of, art that resonates on a deeper level, regardless of its social media performance. It’s about cultivating resilience and finding joy in the quiet act of making, rather than just the loud act of sharing.
