It’s essential to understand the tactics traffickers use and recognize risk factors that increase vulnerability, especially among teens. Open communication between parents and children about online interactions is a powerful preventive measure. Tools like parental controls and monitoring apps can also help safeguard youths’ digital lives. If you live in one of the states identified with higher trafficking incidents—Nevada, Georgia, Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana, Florida, New Mexico, California, South Dakota, or Oregon—consider getting involved in local awareness campaigns or supporting networks offering resources to victims. In addition, stay cautious about strangers and unfamiliar contacts both online and offline, and know where to seek help if you or someone you know may be in danger. Drawing from community initiatives, combined with personal vigilance, we can all contribute to reducing human trafficking and building safer neighborhoods.
