Becoming More Like Jesus
Day 11 — Listening for God’s Voice
Scripture
“My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.”
— John 10:27 (NIV)
Reflection
We live in a noisy world.
Phones buzz. Opinions surround us. Responsibilities demand our attention. And sometimes our own thoughts are the loudest voice of all.
Yet beneath all that noise, Jesus still speaks.
The question is:
Are we quiet enough to listen?
We often come to God with a list of things we need to tell Him.
Our worries.
Our questions.
Our requests.
And He wants to hear every one of them.
But prayer isn’t meant to be a one-way conversation.
Sometimes after we say “Amen,” we need to stay a little longer.
Be still.
Open His Word.
And listen.
God’s voice may not come as something dramatic.
Often, He speaks through Scripture.
Through the gentle conviction of the Holy Spirit.
Through godly wisdom.
Through a truth He keeps bringing back to our hearts.
And whatever we believe we are hearing from God should always agree with His Word and His character.
Jesus said His sheep know His voice.
That kind of recognition grows through relationship.
The more time you spend with someone, the easier it becomes to recognize their voice.
The same is true with Jesus.
The more time we spend in His Word and His presence, the more familiar His truth becomes.
Fear may say, “What if everything goes wrong?”
Jesus reminds us, “Trust Me.”
Shame may say, “You’ll never be enough.”
Jesus reminds us, “You are Mine.”
The world may shout, “Hurry!”
Jesus may gently whisper, “Wait.”
You don’t have to chase every voice competing for your attention.
Stay close to the Shepherd.
Learn His Word.
Know His heart.
And when He leads—
follow.
Prayer
Jesus, quiet the noise around me and within me. Teach me to recognize Your voice above every other voice competing for my attention. Give me wisdom to test what I hear against Your Word and courage to follow when You lead. Help me become so familiar with Your heart that Your truth is the voice I trust most. Amen.
Reflection Question
What voice has been influencing me most lately—fear, other people, my own thoughts, or the truth of Jesus?
Today’s Truth
The closer you stay to Jesus, the easier it becomes to recognize the voice of your Shepherd.
Becoming Challenge
Take five quiet minutes today.
Put your phone away.
Open your Bible and read John 10:27–30 slowly.
Then pray:
“Jesus, quiet every voice that isn’t Yours. Help me recognize Your truth and follow where You lead.”
Sit quietly for a moment afterward.
You don’t have to force an answer.
Simply practice being still with Him.
Less noise. More Jesus. 🤍
