... Read moreWe all have that one movie, or maybe a few, that just stuck with us from childhood – not in a good way, but in a 'gave me nightmares for weeks' kind of way. It's fascinating how certain scenes or characters can imprint themselves on our young minds, creating lasting memories, and sometimes, even lingering anxieties. It’s not just about jump scares; sometimes it's the themes, the injustice, or the sheer creepiness that a child's mind isn't quite ready to process. Think about the sheer terror some felt watching Chucky come to life, or the iconic, chilling presence of Pennywise in the IT remake. These aren't just scary movies; for a developing mind, they can be truly disorienting. The 'Exorcist' for many crossed a line into deeply disturbing spiritual horror that's hard to shake, while 'Salem's Lot' proved that vampires could be terrifying even in a small-town setting. Then there are the less obvious ones – like the original 'Pet Sematary,' which deals with death and resurrection in a profoundly unsettling way, or even 'The Thirteenth Ghost,' which offered a different kind of spectral dread. But trauma isn't exclusive to horror films. Many recall 'The first Jurassic Park' not just for its wonder, but for the sheer primal fear of being hunted by massive, intelligent predators. Even animated movies can leave a mark; 'Dumbo' exploring separation and cruelty, or 'The Fox and the Hound' with its heartbreaking themes of loss and prejudice, have brought many to tears and left a lasting sense of sadness. 'The Wiz' might seem innocent, but for some, its darker elements or unique interpretations were surprisingly unsettling. And who could forget the classic 'Cujo,' turning a beloved pet into a terrifying monster, or the incredibly intense themes found in films like 'I Spit On Your Grave' that some children unfortunately encountered too young? It’s clear that what traumatizes a child can be incredibly varied. These experiences often shape our preferences and fears as adults, sometimes making us wary of specific genres or even specific animals. It gives us a shared cultural touchstone, a way to connect over those intense, formative cinematic moments. While no movie should ever make anyone truly 'want to be dead,' some films can certainly evoke such deep despair, helplessness, or profound emotional disturbance that they leave a lasting, heavy impression, reminding us of the darker facets of life or imagination. It’s a testament to the power of storytelling, for better or worse, and a reminder that movies aren't just entertainment; they're experiences that can stay with us for a lifetime.

Oh wow!! this really got me thinking hard cause I'm not a "spring chicken" anymore but I have a couple traumatizing movies but these 2 automatically came to me 1st. "faces of death" is the first & "the shining" is the second!! And if u are around 50 yrs old then u would of been about 8 or 9 years old when these spooks came out and to beat it all we had cable and my mom & Dad tried to shelter us so we didn't have issues, but anyways...lol😂😂❤️❤️🍋🍋
