Not Every Good Idea Is God!

From my personal experience, learning to tell the difference between good ideas and God's true voice has been a journey full of challenges and growth. Many times, I found myself confused by thoughts urging me to "start that business" or "quit your job," similar to the voices depicted in the article's image OCR. At first, these suggestions seemed positive and promising, but not all of them aligned with God's will for me. What helped me most was cultivating a consistent relationship with God through daily prayer and meditation on scripture, which sharpened my spiritual discernment. I realized that God's voice often brings peace, clarity, and aligns with His character revealed in the Bible, unlike fleeting feelings or cultural pressures. For example, Proverbs 3:5, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart," reminded me to lean on faith rather than my own understanding. Additionally, I learned to test every prompting against God’s word and the fruits it produces in my life — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and self-control. If a 'good idea' led me to stress, confusion, or strife, that was often a sign it wasn’t from God. In practical terms, when hearing internal or external voices encouraging decisions, I pause and seek wise counsel from fellow believers and pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Over time, this process has helped me avoid harmful paths that initially felt right but ultimately caused misalignment with God’s purpose. This journey taught me that spiritual discernment is not about ignoring good ideas but about aligning all ideas with God's will and character. Not every positive or appealing thought is God’s voice, so nurturing that spiritual connection is essential for peace and direction in life.
