Gardening in The Sims 4 is one of my favorite ways to add a touch of tranquility and productivity to my Sims' lives. There's just something so satisfying about watching your digital plants grow from tiny seeds into magnificent, harvestable crops! I usually grab mine from the Build Mode catalog under the 'Outdoor' section, or sometimes even directly from a computer if I'm feeling lazy. Nurturing Your Green Friends: Basic Plant Care Once planted, your Sim's garden will need some tender loving care. The most common tasks are watering and weeding. Just click on a plant and you'll see the options. Don't forget to check your plants regularly, as neglecting them can lead to them dying or getting infested with pests. As your Sim's gardening skill increases, they'll unlock more efficient actions like 'Water All' or 'Weed All,' which are huge time-savers, especially if you have a big farm and garden lot like mine! The Magic of Fertilizing Plants One of the biggest game-changers for plant quality is fertilizing. From my experience, this feature becomes available around Gardening Skill Level 4, and it's absolutely worth the effort. You can fertilize plants using various items from your Sim's inventory, like harvested produce, fish, or even specific 'Super Fertilizer' bought from Build Mode. I've noticed a huge difference in the quality of my crops, like my onion plant, after consistent fertilizing. It significantly boosts their growth and quality, meaning more valuable harvests! Just click on the plant and choose the 'Fertilize' option, then pick what you want to use. Understanding Sims 4 Gardening Seasons If you have the Seasons expansion pack, gardening becomes even more dynamic! Different plants prefer different seasons. For example, some plants thrive in spring and summer but won't grow in winter unless they're indoors or in a greenhouse. It adds a lovely layer of realism and planning to your gardening endeavors. Always check the plant's information to see its preferred season. This can make a big difference in how well your garden performs throughout the Sim year. Beyond the Basics: Skill Levels and Rewards As your Sim continues to tend their garden, their gardening skill will grow. Higher skill levels unlock new plant types, new interactions (like talking to plants!), and the ability to graft plants, which is a fantastic way to create unique hybrids.
