New to roller skating? Here’s a quick guide to the basics! 🛼✨
Before you start skating, it’s good to know what each part of your roller skate actually does. The boot supports your foot, the laces and hooks help keep it secure, while the trucks, cushions, wheels, bearings, and wheel nuts all work together to give you a smooth and controlled ride.
And don’t forget about your wheels! 🛞
Wheel hardness can make a big difference to how your skates feel. Skate wheels are usually measured using the Durometer scale a lower number means a softer wheel, while a higher number means a harder wheel.
For example, an 85A wheel is a medium-hard option. The best wheel for you depends on where you skate and the type of floor your skating on.

It’s always good to get to know your roller skates and give them a little care after every indoor or outdoor session. 🛼✨ Personally, after skating outdoors, I like to take off all the wheels, brush away any dirt around the bearings, wipe down the axles and cushions, and rotate the wheels every two sessions. That’s just my routine, and it’s always worked well for me. A little regular maintenance can go a long way in keeping your skates rolling smoothly and ready for the next session! 🛼
