... Read moreWhen I first started approaching my 60th birthday, I couldn't help but wonder: what does sixty even look like anymore? The images we're often fed in media don't always reflect the vibrant, diverse reality of women in their sixties today. I saw friends, family, and even myself feeling more energetic and engaged than ever, yet the stereotype of a 'sixty-year-old' often conjured up outdated notions.
For me, turning sixty has been less about slowing down and more about embracing every aspect of who I am. It's about feeling confident in my own skin, whether I'm rocking my short, dark curly hair or deciding what t-shirt to wear for the day. There's a freedom that comes with age – a confidence in expressing yourself exactly as you are, from the clothes you choose to the small details like a favorite piercing. It's truly a time to own your style and your story, not conform to someone else's idea of what your age group should be.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that 'sixty' isn't a look; it's an experience. It's about how you feel on the inside, and how you choose to live your life. I prioritize staying active, whether it's through daily walks, gardening, or trying new low-impact exercises. Nourishing my body with good food and making time for mental well-being, like reading or spending time with loved ones, has become even more important. It's these daily habits that truly contribute to how I feel and, in turn, how I present myself to the world.
Many people ask about beauty routines or 'anti-aging' secrets, but for me, it's much simpler. It's about self-care that makes me feel good, not trying to erase the years. I focus on keeping my skin hydrated, choosing comfortable yet stylish clothes that make me feel good (you'll often find me in a comfy tee!), and enjoying life's simple pleasures. That includes maintaining my personal style, like my little piercing, because it's a part of who I am and always has been. Age doesn't mean you have to change your core identity or lose your edge.
Ultimately, what does sixty look like? It looks like me, it looks like my friends, it looks like countless incredible women who are living full, vibrant lives. It's a collage of experiences, laughter lines, wisdom, and personal expression. It's about defying expectations and showing up authentically. So, if you're approaching this milestone or already there, I encourage you to define it for yourself. Embrace your unique journey, celebrate your personal style, and show the world what 60 really looks like – vibrant, confident, and utterly fabulous!
Beautiful mama’s!!!
