Why Homemaking Still Matters

To me homemaking is not just about chores, it is about creating a rhythm that makes life feel softer and more intentional. I try to build little daily rituals that ground me. Making my morning espresso, cooking a slow breakfast that keeps me full most of the day, spending time on the balcony, and playing with my cats all help me slow down and romanticize everyday life ☕🌸🐾

Because I have ADHD, I need structure but I also need flexibility. I stick to a few weekly anchors like keeping up with dishes, trash, running the robot vacuum, and staying on top of laundry so things do not pile up. But I also give myself freedom to shift based on energy levels or my partner’s work schedule.

Beyond cleaning, it is the cozy touches that make home feel alive. I always change up seasonal décor, my boyfriend surprises me with fresh flowers, and I love thrifting unique finds that give me little goals to look forward to. I even make grocery trips into something special by grabbing a nice coffee and treating it like an outing.

Homemaking for me is also about partnership. He pays the bills and I handle most of the housework, but when I am sick or too drained he will cook, clean, and step in where I cannot. We both help in different ways and it feels balanced.

And when home feels heavy, I make sure I have “secondary spaces” so I do not feel stuck. Trader Joe’s, cafes, thrift shops, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, or just a walk through the park help reset my mind.

Homemaking is not about perfection, it is about creating routines, cozy systems, and little escapes that keep life flowing smoothly while also feeling warm and lived in 🏡✨
