... Read moreIt's such an exciting feeling to start a new book in my Bible journaling journey, and this week, I've just jumped into Habakkuk! What immediately caught my attention, and what I know resonates with so many of us, is that powerful instruction in Habakkuk 2:2-3: "Write the vision and make it plain." This isn't just a suggestion; it feels like a divine directive, especially when we're navigating uncertain times or waiting on God for answers.
For me, "writing the vision" isn't about conjuring up my own perfect life plan. Instead, it's about seeking God's heart for my life, His calling, and then articulating it clearly. When I sit down with my open Bible and journal, surrounded by my pens and colorful sticky notes, I really try to listen. I ask myself: What is God showing me? What promises am I holding onto? How can I make this vision so clear that even "he who runs may read it"? It's a beautiful process of discernment and documentation. I'll often use different colored pens to highlight key phrases or circle words that jump out at me, making my handwritten notes a visual map of my spiritual discoveries.
Then there's the crucial second part: "For the vision is yet for an appointed time; it hastens toward the goal and it will not fail; though it tarries, wait for it; for it will certainly come, it will not delay." This part speaks so deeply to my heart. We live in a world of instant gratification, but God's timing is perfect. This is where my "Pray. Wait. Trust." sticky note often finds its place on the page, reminding me to surrender control. It’s hard to wait, isn't it? But Habakkuk teaches us that the wait isn't wasted. It's during this 'appointed time' that we grow, we learn patience, and our faith is strengthened. The book of Habakkuk itself deals with heavy themes of judgment and grace, providing a profound backdrop for why waiting on God's justice and deliverance is so essential.
My Bible journaling sessions have become an essential practice for processing these truths. I love how having an actual, tangible record of my prayers, insights, and the visions God has given me helps me stay grounded. When I feel discouraged, I can flip back through my journal, see those handwritten notes, and remember His faithfulness. Using a white tassel bookmark helps me quickly jump back to where I left off, ensuring continuity in my reflections. It’s more than just pretty aesthetics; it's a practical tool for spiritual growth and daily motivation.
If you're feeling a call to "write the vision," I highly encourage you to try a similar approach. Grab your Bible, a journal, and your favorite pens. Read Habakkuk 2:2-3 slowly, perhaps multiple times. Ask God to reveal His vision to you, then write it down—plainly, clearly, and without reservation. Then, crucially, practice the art of waiting. Trust that He knows the appointed time, and He will bring it to pass. It’s a journey of faith, patience, and profound trust in His divine plan.
