Birthday party. 9pm.
Bella snatched chocolate cake off the counter.
Dark chocolate frosting. Lots of it."We need to do something NOW!"
"Oh stop. My childhood dog ate chocolate all the time." 🙄I'm showing him Google results. Theobromine. Toxic. DEADLY.
"The internet makes you paranoid."
"She needs help or—"
"She needs you to CALM DOWN." 😰11pm: Bella's panting heavy.
"She's just excited from the party."
Midnight: Vomiting.
"See? She's getting it out herself."1am: Can't stop vomiting. Shaking.
"Maybe we should—"
"Maybe you should let me sleep." 😡3am: Found her in the bathroom.
Aspirated her own vomit. Gone.
My husband trying to give her CPR.
Too late. Way too late. 💔The emergency vet we called said:
"Activated charcoal immediately would have absorbed the theobromine.
Works like millions of tiny magnets trapping the poison.
Given in the first hour, prevents most absorption."Then she said something I'll never forget:
"Get PawMergency. It's what we use here.
Every pet owner should keep it at home.
Chocolate, grapes, raisins, THC, medications - it handles them all." 😭My husband ordered it from Amazon that morning. Link in bio if anyone needs it.💔
Can't sleep past 3am anymore.
Comment "TRUSTED" and I'll DM you the exact symptoms of chocolate poisoning everyone ignores.
We're still married. But there's a Bella-shaped hole between us.
And it sounds like "calm down" every time I see it. 😭
