4 Ways to BOOST Productivity at Work

Are you struggling to stay productive in the spring? It can be soooo difficult! There are not many holidays or breaks to look forward to, so morale can be low! Here are some ways I stay productive:

→ 1: If I feel like I am too tired to get something done in the evening, I will go to bed early and wake up a little earlier to get it done. It has helped so much! It makes me less anxious and focus more on my tasks.

→ 2: I write down what I need to do assignment/task-wise each week to get a general map out of my week. Then, I write my schedule down the night before, so I wake up prepared.

→ 3: Try to time block. I usually try to schedule different blocks of time for certain tasks. For example, today I needed to get some housework and career work done. So, from 10am to 1pm, I did all my cleaning tasks. Then, from 1pm to 4:30pm, I blocked off the time for work tasks. Instead of going back and forth, I can save time staying focused.

→ 4: Keep digital and physical lists. I am always on the move. So, it can be hard to keep a physical list of everything I need done. So, I keep my physical planner and Asana (Digital Project Management tool) updated with all my tasks I need to do. That way I have my list no matter where I go.

What are your tips for being productive?

... Read moreI totally get that feeling of struggling to stay productive, especially when the seasons change or there aren't many breaks in sight! It's so easy for morale to dip. I’ve been there, and what really turned things around for me was intentionally building a solid productive routine. The four tips I shared earlier are my foundation, but over time, I've added a few more layers to really make my days count and ensure I'm consistently productive at work. First, let's talk more about that "go to bed early, wake up early" hack. It’s a game-changer! When I say I get things done by waking up earlier, it’s not just about adding hours; it's about adding quality hours. My morning routine now often includes a quick review of my daily schedule, a moment of quiet reflection, and tackling one or two high-priority tasks before the rest of the world wakes up. This uninterrupted time is incredibly valuable for deep work, making me feel less rushed and more in control of my day. It sets a positive tone, and I've found that this quiet start significantly reduces the anxiety I used to feel about my workload. Expanding on "write it down" – simply making a list is a great start, but making it effective is key. I've started categorizing my tasks into "must-do," "should-do," and "could-do." This helps me prioritize, especially when unexpected things pop up. I also break down bigger projects into smaller, manageable steps. Instead of just "finish report," I'll write "outline report," "research section 1," "draft intro," and so on. This makes the task feel less daunting and easier to slot into my time blocks. My weekly map becomes a strategic plan, not just a list of obligations. Speaking of time blocks, I’ve learned that consistency is crucial. Initially, I’d just block out time, but then get distracted. Now, I try to schedule my most demanding tasks during my peak energy hours, usually in the morning. For tasks like emails or administrative work, I group them into specific blocks later in the day. And here's a big one: I purposefully schedule breaks within my time blocks. Even a 10-minute stretch or walk can refresh my focus and prevent burnout. It’s not about working non-stop; it’s about working smarter within defined periods. Finally, the digital & physical lists system. It’s not just about having them; it's about actively managing them. I treat my physical planner as my daily command center – it has the nitty-gritty details, appointments, and quick notes. Asana, my digital tool, is where I manage longer-term projects, collaborate with others, and keep track of repeating tasks. The trick is to review both frequently. At the end of each day, I reconcile them, moving completed tasks and updating anything that needs attention. This ensures nothing falls through the cracks and that my system truly supports my on-the-go lifestyle. Building a truly productive routine is an ongoing process of experimenting and refining. What works one week might need tweaking the next. But by consistently applying these strategies – getting intentional about my mornings, smart about my planning, disciplined with my time blocks, and diligent with my dual-list system – I’ve found a rhythm that helps me stay on top of my responsibilities and truly feel proactive instead of reactive. It’s about creating habits that serve your goals, making productivity feel less like a chore and more like a natural part of your day.
