Oh, Provence! My trip there was absolutely magical, and staying in a traditional stone house really made the experience unforgettable. They're exactly as charming as they look in photos, with their ancient stone buildings nestled among vibrant greenery under that famous bright blue sky. It's not just the scenery; it’s the tranquility, the scent of lavender in the air, and the feeling of stepping back in time that truly captivates you. One of the best parts of my stay was exploring villages like Roussillon and Bonnieux, which were so conveniently close to our homestay. Roussillon, with its distinctive ochre-colored houses, felt like stepping into a painter's palette. The vibrant hues of the earth against the blue sky are simply mesmerizing. Wandering through its narrow, winding streets, admiring the unique stone architecture and the charming green doors and shutters on every building, was pure bliss. Each turn offered a new picturesque view, and you can really feel the history embedded in those sun-drenched stones. Don't forget to explore the Ochre Trail for some incredible natural landscapes that are unique to this area! Then there's Bonnieux, another gem, perched high with breathtaking panoramic views of the Luberon valley. From its elevated position, you can see for miles, with vineyards and olive groves stretching out below. Imagine sitting at a small, authentic cafe, sipping local rosé wine and indulging in some regional delicacies, all while soaking in that incredible vista. The homestay itself perfectly captured this authentic Provençal feel. Our beautiful stone house, with its cozy interiors, exposed beams, and even an arched entryway leading to a bright kitchen, felt like a true home away from home. It wasn't just a place to sleep; it was an extension of the beautiful landscape outside, truly immersing us in the local culture. The attention to detail, from the comfortable furnishings to the traditional tiled backsplash, really made it special. If you have more time, I'd also highly recommend venturing a little further to visit Gordes, often called one of France's most beautiful villages. It's famous for its dramatic position and golden stone buildings, which glow spectacularly at sunset – a truly unmissable sight for photographers and romantics alike. And for a unique perspective, try to find those iconic 'view windows' in places like Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, which offer stunning framed glimpses of the rolling countryside from ancient, well-preserved structures. These villages truly embody the essence of Provence, offering a blend of history, natural beauty, and unforgettable charm. Staying in a place that echoes this traditional stone architecture just elevates the entire journey, making you feel completely immersed in the heart of Southern France and its timeless appeal.
