This was one of the best books I have read in the last year! I am obsessed with the character development and how insightful the author is in depicting queer characters in their early 20’s. The growth Alex and Henry go through and the self acceptance that they experience is amazing. I love how the book dissects racism, classism, sexism, gender identity, and sexual orientation all through an intersectional lens. Alex (FSOTUS) goes on a journey of self discovery identifying that he is bisexual and has been all along. He also accepts that perfectionism is not the key to happiness. Him and Prince Henry (HRH) have an enemies-to-lovers kind of relationship as they navigate long-distance and keeping their love a secret in the public eye until they are outed by another political figure. Henry learns to accept himself and shake off some of the pressure of being a royal in modern times. It also explores aspects of grief that Henry’s family are forced to deal with. Phenomenal story! I’m excited to watch the movie to see if it is anywhere near as good as the book. I only docked it .2 stars because it was a little slow in the beginning for me. Minimal spice too which was a nice change from the last few I’ve read.
