Book Review 2/8 of the Missing March Reviews

2024/4/10 Edited to

... Read moreOkay, fellow bookworms, let's dive even deeper into 'A Dream So Wicked' by Tessonja Odette! Beyond my initial thoughts, I wanted to share a bit more about why this book resonated with me (or didn't quite hit the mark in certain areas). When I first picked it up, I was drawn to the promise of a captivating fantasy romance, and it certainly delivered on the 'fantasy' front with its rich world-building and intriguing magic system. For those of you who adore intricate magical realms, you'll find plenty to love here. Odette has a knack for painting vivid pictures with her words, making it easy to get lost in the story's setting. I found myself scribbling down notes in my journal, trying to keep track of all the unique elements – which, by the way, is a sign of a truly immersive read for me! My notebook, often decorated with stickers like a little black cat peeking over a stack of books, became my companion throughout this journey. It's where I jotted down initial thoughts on genre, speculated about character motivations, and highlighted my favorite quotes. The 'romance' aspect, of course, is what many of us are here for, right? I'd describe it as a slow-burn, which I personally enjoy. It builds up nicely, with a good amount of tension and emotional depth. If you're looking for instant sparks, you might need to be a little patient, but the payoff is definitely worth it. I appreciated how the characters weren't perfect; their flaws made them feel incredibly real and relatable. This isn't just a fluffy romance; it tackles some heavier themes too, like destiny, sacrifice, and the choices we make for love and power. One thing that really stood out to me was the pacing. It starts strong, pulls you in, and maintains a good rhythm throughout. There were moments where I literally couldn't put my e-reader down (and yes, I read it on both my tablet and e-reader, depending on where I was!). The plot twists kept me on my toes, and I loved trying to predict what would happen next, often failing delightfully. The writing style itself is engaging, balancing descriptive prose with snappy dialogue, making the pages fly by. So, who would I recommend 'A Dream So Wicked' to? If you're a fan of intricate fantasy worlds, strong female protagonists who face tough choices, and a romance that slowly simmers rather than explodes, then this book is definitely for your TBR pile. It's perfect for a cozy afternoon read curled up with a blanket (just like my reading setup with the e-reader on a fluffy brown blanket!). If you enjoyed books like 'From Blood and Ash' or 'A Shadow in the Ember' for their blend of fantasy and intense romance, you might find a new favorite here. It offers that same immersive escapism but with its own unique magical flair. If you've read it, I'd love to know your thoughts too – what were your favorite parts, or what surprised you the most about Tessonja Odette's storytelling?

One of my goals for the year was to stress “quality over quantity” in books. For me that means getting the most out of every book and deeply indulging in each book rather than meeting a goal of how many books I should read for the year. #readingjournalwithme #readingjournalsetup #ereader #ki
