Book review #29

Book Review 📕

I was kind of disappointed with this book. At first I was into it; it seemed intriguing and the character development was fun to follow. But the book dragged on and on in the middle and was super repetitive. And the romance was there but nothing really happened until closer to the end. It just seemed like there was nothing super exciting to cling on to. This is a duology. I’m still deciding if I’m going to read the second book or not. The ending was super cheesy and rushed; it seemed like the author wanted to dump all of the drama into two pages and the storyline was super weird and confusing. Not my favorite book. 2 out of 5 stars for me.

... Read moreHaving read 'Fate Inked Blood,' I found myself drawn initially to the intriguing premise and the careful character development. The author weaves a world where one's fate is literally inked into their blood, a powerful and unique concept that promises much. The OCR text highlighting the theme - 'Her fate inked in her blood' and 'Carved bones… Freya's destiny' - hints at the mystique and depth underlying the story's mythology. However, as the story progresses into the middle chapters, the narrative tends to slow which may frustrate readers hoping for continuous action. Many scenes felt repetitive, with the romance subplot only gaining momentum towards the end. This can make it difficult to stay fully engaged, especially when the pacing falters. The duology format means the author tries to build and resolve significant plotlines across two books. Yet, the ending of this first book felt rushed and somewhat cheesy, as if all the drama was compressed into a few pages. This abrupt culmination left some of the storylines feeling confusing and underdeveloped. From personal experience, when a book's middle drags, it's often because the author is attempting to deepen character traits or world-building—but it requires a delicate balance to keep readers hooked. I would recommend readers who enjoy fantasy with strong, fate-bound themes give this a try, especially if you appreciate intricate lore. However, be prepared for an uneven ride and a cliffhanger that may leave you wondering if the sequel will clarify matters. In sum, 'Fate Inked Blood' offers an interesting premise and mythological depth, but pacing and resolution issues may impact your enjoyment. If you decide to continue with the next book in the saga, hopefully, the story will pick up and provide a more satisfying payoff.
