5e Archery Fighter Build (2014)
Build inspired by Archery! 5e Build using 2014 rules. I used Champion archetype in this video but it works with just about any Fighter Archetype. Have fun!
Hey everyone! So, you want to be a deadly archer in D&D 5e, but maybe the Ranger class isn't quite hitting the mark for your playstyle? That's exactly how I felt when I cooked up this incredibly potent Fighter Archery build. Forget relying on spells; this build is all about pure, unadulterated ranged weapon mastery and dishing out massive damage per turn. My journey started with wanting to maximize my ranged damage without multiclassing into something complicated. The Fighter class, with its numerous attacks, Action Surge, and access to powerful fighting styles, quickly became the obvious choice. The core of this build revolves around the Archery Fighting Style, which gives you a crucial +2 to attack rolls. This might seem small, but it's massive for offsetting penalties from feats like Sharpshooter. Speaking of Sharpshooter, this feat is non-negotiable for any serious archery build. It lets you ignore half and three-quarters cover, removes disadvantage for long-range attacks, and most importantly, allows you to take a -5 penalty to your attack roll for a whopping +10 to damage. With the Archery Fighting Style, that -5 penalty effectively becomes a -3, making the trade-off much more favorable. For your stats, prioritize Dexterity above all else. Maxing it out as quickly as possible is key to both your attack rolls and damage. Constitution is also important for hit points, as you'll still be on the front lines of ranged combat, drawing enemy attention. Now, let's talk about the magic that truly makes this build sing, echoing my own experience with magic items. If your DM allows, securing a +2 Longbow and Bracers of Archery is a game-changer. The +2 Longbow adds +2 to both attack and damage. The Bracers of Archery add another +2 to damage rolls made with a longbow or shortbow. And here’s the kicker – they stack! Many people wonder if two items giving a +2 bonus can stack, but as confirmed by none other than Jeremy Crawford (the D&D rules guru), they absolutely do because they come from different sources. This means you get an incredible +4 to both your attack and damage rolls from these two items combined, on top of your Dexterity modifier and Sharpshooter bonus damage! At higher levels, specifically around level 11, a Fighter's extra attacks truly shine. With three attacks per action, plus the ability to use Action Surge for another full action, you can unleash six powerful arrows in a single turn. If you’ve chosen the Champion archetype, like I did, you're looking at critical hits on a 19 or 20, further boosting your damage potential. Imagine landing multiple critical hits with Sharpshooter damage added on! Even on a low damage roll, I'm consistently hitting for 21-23 damage per arrow, leading to turns where I've dealt over 120 damage when all my shots connect. While Champion is great for consistent damage and crits, other Fighter archetypes can also be devastating. A Battle Master could use Precision Attack to ensure those Sharpshooter hits land, or a Samurai could gain advantage on all attacks for a turn, making those big damage numbers even more likely. So, if you're looking for a D&D 5e archer build that feels incredibly strong, offers consistent high damage, and doesn't rely on spell slots, give this Fighter Archery powerhouse a try. It’s a blast to play and will make you the undisputed ranged damage dealer at your table!
