I've decided to give a low buy year a shot! I'm definitely prone to impulse purchases and overconsumption and I want to be better.
❤️My Rules❤️
• no new clothing, shoes, or jewelry. this doesn't include work clothes/shoes or gifts. anything else MUST be thrifted and nothing at all is to be purchased until I declutter my closet
• no new skincare, haircare, or makeup unless I run out of something and need to replace it.
• no new hobby items!! this is a big one. I have so many craft, art, fabric, and sewing supplies. unless I'm replacing something or buying an item specifically for a project, I don't need it.
•less impulse eating out! I plan to bring my lunch and snacks more, and avoid stopping for food or coffee while I'm out.
❤️Decluttering❤️
In addition to the low buy, I'm planning on decluttering my closet, jewelry, makeup, and studio space. I plan to donate or sell as much as I can.
I'll be posting about my journey on here, if you're interested feel free to follow! if you're also doing a low buy year, what are your rules and why did you decide to do it?
... Read moreA low buy year is a popular commitment that many individuals take on to curb their spending habits and promote mindful consumption. The concept revolves around minimizing unnecessary purchases while still allowing for essential items, such as what is needed for work or personal projects.
In 2025, more people are expected to join in on this movement, seeking to declutter and reduce the excess in their lives. This is not only beneficial for one’s wallet but also for the environment, as it helps combat overconsumption and waste. Participants often create personal guidelines to adhere to their low buy lifestyle. Rules such as avoiding new clothing purchases, taking time to reconsider impulse buys, and committing to thrift shopping can aid in maintaining this resolution.
Moreover, decluttering becomes an essential part of this journey. Many individuals find joy in donating or selling items they no longer need, creating space in their homes and lives. Engaging in community dialogues about low buy practices can open avenues for support and accountability.
For those considering this lifestyle change, it may be helpful to reflect on past shopping behaviors, assess needs versus wants, and establish clear rules to make the process sustainable. Following those who share similar experiences on social media platforms can also provide encouragement and inspiration, making the journey toward mindful consumption a community effort.
