I wish I was joking about this but i'm absolutely NOT!!! I always heard that dogs are able to sense shifts in your hormones through sent- but when my once distant dog became super snuggly, I grew weary. My dog meatballs personality seemingly changed overnight & is one of the reasons I decided to test early after my embryo transfer. I am not joking when I say she has become so in tune with my aches, emotions and every move. I love thay our relationship has gotten even stronger through this pregnancy 🤩
have your dogs ever picked up on a life milestone of yours?
... Read moreIt's truly incredible how intuitive our furry friends can be, especially when it comes to major life changes like pregnancy! I always heard stories about dogs sensing pregnancy before their owners did, but I never truly believed it until it happened to me. The way my Corgi, Meatballs, altered her behavior was a huge, undeniable clue, and it made me wonder: how exactly do they know?
Experts often point to a dog's incredible sense of smell. During pregnancy, a woman's body undergoes significant hormonal shifts, altering her scent in subtle ways that are undetectable to humans but crystal clear to a dog's sensitive nose. Beyond scent, they might also pick up on changes in your routine, body language, or even your heartbeat and breathing patterns. Their acute hearing and observation skills mean they're often the first to notice even the slightest shift in your demeanor or physical state.
So, what are some of these tell-tale signs that your dog knows you're pregnant? For many, like my own experience, dogs become incredibly clingy or protective. My Corgi, for example, transformed overnight from a somewhat independent pup into my shadow. She'd follow me everywhere, rest her head on my belly, and even tried to 'guard' me from other people. Other common behaviors include increased nuzzling, licking, or a sudden shift in their sleeping habits, often wanting to be closer to you at all times. If your French Bulldog or another breed suddenly becomes your personal security guard, it might be more than just a coincidence!
The 'dog guarding pregnant owner' phenomenon is very real. It's their instinct to protect their pack leader, and they perceive you as more vulnerable. This can manifest as barking at strangers, positioning themselves between you and others, or becoming unusually alert. It's their way of preparing for the new arrival and ensuring your safety. This protectiveness can be incredibly comforting, knowing you have such a loyal companion watching over you.
Before I even considered taking a test after my embryo transfer, my Corgi's behavior was a huge clue. Her newfound snuggles and constant presence, combined with a subtle but definite change in my own body, pushed me to test early. It was like she was sending me a clear signal, and her loyalty and affection only grew stronger as my pregnancy progressed. She became my constant, furry companion through every ache and emotion, truly in tune with my journey.
Some dogs might also react to your emotional state, becoming more comforting if you're experiencing morning sickness or fatigue. They might even become more subdued or anxious, sensing the big change ahead. Every dog is different, but these shifts are often undeniable once you know what to look for. If your beloved canine companion starts exhibiting these unusual behaviors, especially if they're typically not the 'cuddly' type, it might be worth paying extra attention to your body. It's a beautiful bond we share with our pets, and their ability to sense such profound changes truly strengthens that connection. Embrace these moments; they're truly special.
I got my dog when she was a puppy the same weekend I found out I was pregnant and she immediately grew attached to me. Now her and my daughter are the best of friends 💕 #petlover
