a lesson in self-care

It’s so easy to get swept up in the chaos of everyday life — the to-do lists, the texts you haven’t answered, the feeling that someone always needs something from you. When you’re a people pleaser (like me), it’s even harder. You want to be everything for everyone, all the time. You tell yourself you’ll rest later… but “later” never really comes.

Lately, I’ve been reminding myself that self-care isn’t selfish — it’s necessary. You can’t pour from an empty cup, no matter how hard you try. Taking a step back doesn’t mean you’re letting anyone down; it means you’re choosing to show up better when it counts.

For me, self-care has looked like focusing on the little things that make me feel good — doing my skincare routine, getting my nails done, keeping up with my hair. It’s not about vanity; it’s about taking the time to remind myself that I’m worth the effort, too. #selfcare #copperhair #autumnhair

... Read moreIn today’s fast-paced world, feeling overwhelmed by endless tasks and expectations is all too common, especially for people pleasers who strive to be everything for everyone. However, it’s important to understand that self-care is a productive and necessary practice, not a luxury. Taking care of yourself means replenishing your energy and mental health so you can effectively support others. A popular saying reminds us: "You can’t pour from an empty cup." This highlights that investing time in personal well-being actually boosts our capacity to care for those around us. Self-care can be simple daily rituals that foster a sense of worth and calm. For instance, maintaining a skincare routine, getting nails done, or refreshing your hairstyle like embracing copper or autumn hair colors can offer more than cosmetic benefits—they reinforce self-respect and nurture your identity. Mental and emotional self-care is just as critical. Setting boundaries, allowing yourself to rest without guilt, and acknowledging that stepping back is not a failure but a strategic pause, help prevent burnout. Remember, productivity isn't just about doing more; it’s about doing what truly matters with your best self. Incorporating #selfcare into your lifestyle means embracing habits that enrich your physical, emotional, and mental health. Whether it’s mindfulness, hobbies, or simply unplugging from constant connectivity, these practices remind us that attending to ourselves is not indulgent, but foundational. Finally, recognizing the productive nature of self-care cultivates compassion and resilience. When you feel nurtured and valued, you have more patience and energy to engage meaningfully with your world. Self-care, therefore, is a powerful act of empowerment and a vital tool for sustainable wellness in everyday life.

The skincare lesson my skin taught me
