Gundam Lure

... Read moreHey fellow Gundam lovers and custom builders! I've seen some of you asking, 'what Gundam is this?' when you come across unique builds or creations. It's a fantastic question, especially when builders put their own spin on things, just like with my handmade Gundam lure! Identifying specific Mobile Suits can be a fun challenge, and it really shows the depth of knowledge within our community. Often, when we see a custom build, the builder might have taken inspiration from several different series or even combined elements from various Mobile Suits. For instance, my Gundam lure might incorporate the sharp V-fin of a classic RX-78-2, the chunky armor of a Zaku, or the sleek lines of a Wing Gundam. To figure out 'what Gundam is this,' you usually look for key identifiers: V-fin Shape: Is it pointed, rounded, or multi-pronged? Different eras and series have distinct V-fin styles. Head Design: The head is often the most recognizable part. Look at the eyes (mono-eye, twin eyes, multiple eyes), the faceplate, and any unique sensors. Chest and Torso: Does it have a core fighter system? Distinctive vents or power conduits? Armament: What kind of beam rifle, shield, or melee weapons does it carry? These are often iconic to specific models. Color Scheme: While custom builds allow for limitless colors, many Gundams have signature palettes (e.g., RX-78-2's red, white, blue, and yellow). Overall Silhouette: Is it bulky, slender, asymmetrical, or heavily armored? For my handmade lure, the process was all about capturing that Gundam spirit in a completely different medium. I started by sketching out a few designs, thinking about which Gundam elements would translate best into a functional fishing lure. It wasn't just about painting a Mobile Suit onto a piece of plastic; it was about designing a shape that mimicked a Gundam's presence while still performing well in the water. If you're into custom projects like this, whether it's modeling or crafting something unique, don't be afraid to experiment! There are so many resources online for learning new techniques, from resin casting to intricate painting. And when you're done, sharing it with the community and asking 'what Gundam is this?' is a great way to engage and get feedback. Maybe your next build will be an Epyon-inspired birdhouse or a Char's Zaku II-themed coffee mug! What are some of your favorite custom builds you've seen, or even made yourself? I'd love to hear about them!
