a page from my survival mode notebook

Life been life’ing fr 😭🎀 and I feel like a lot of people are in survival mode right now but nobody really talks about the little things that come with it. Not even on some “everything falling apart” type timing… more like trying your best to keep going while mentally exhausted. That’s honestly what inspired this notebook page. It’s basically all the random little habits, thoughts, and routines I picked up while trying to make it through stressful seasons of life.

Some days I be so overwhelmed I don’t even know where to start, so I make lists just to feel somewhat in control again 😭 then half the time I don’t even finish them. I’ll have alarms for everything, screenshots instead of organization, snacks and energy drinks keeping me alive, and 20 thoughts going through my head at once. Sometimes survival mode don’t even look “sad.” Sometimes it just looks like being tired all the time, staying busy so you don’t think too much, wanting space but still craving comfort at the same time.

I also wanted this page to feel soft and realistic because social media makes it seem like everybody always has it together. Whole time some of us are just trying to get through the week, keep showing up, pay bills, heal privately, work, go to school, answer texts, and still pour into ourselves somehow. That takes strength too even if it doesn’t look pretty all the time.

I think people underestimate how exhausting it is constantly being in “keep going” mode. You start celebrating small things like finally cleaning your room, drinking water, getting out the bed on time, or making it through the day without crashing mentally 😭 and honestly? those little wins matter. Real bad.

This notebook page is kinda like organized chaos 😭 like cute but mentally overloaded at the same time. Which is literally me lately. I wanted it to feel comforting though, not negative. Just a reminder that you can be overwhelmed and still trying. You can be tired and still ambitious. You can want softness while still fighting through hard seasons privately.

If you’ve been feeling like this lately just know you’re not alone fr 🫶🏽 one thing about us? we still gonna show up somehow. Even if it’s messy. Even if we gotta take it one day at a time.

... Read moreLiving in survival mode often feels like a juggling act between exhaustion and determination. From personal experience, one of the hardest parts is managing the mental clutter—a constant flood of thoughts and to-dos that can feel overwhelming. Creating lists can sometimes help to regain control, but it’s common to get distracted or not complete everything, which can add to the frustration. A survival mode routine often involves relying on small crutches like caffeine, quick snacks, or repetitive alarms just to keep moving. Screenshots replace organized plans because sorting through tasks feels like too much effort. Even resting can become a form of productivity, where taking a break feels like achieving something important amidst chaos. I’ve found solace in acknowledging that survival doesn’t have to look dramatic or sad; it can simply appear as persistent tiredness, staying busy to avoid tough feelings, and balancing the desire for comfort with the need for personal space. Recognizing this nuance helps to validate the experience rather than hide it behind social media’s highlight reels. Celebrating small victories—like getting out of bed on time, staying hydrated, or cleaning a room—even when everything else feels out of reach can build resilience. These tiny accomplishments are essential reminders that progress is happening, even if it’s not grand or visible to others. It’s also important to accept that healing is not a linear process. Sometimes, survival involves taking a step back, allowing yourself off days, and not being too hard on unmet expectations. Writing notes to your future self as encouragement or reminders of strength can be surprisingly uplifting. Ultimately, surviving means continuing to show up, even if it’s messy and imperfect. It’s about embracing the organized chaos in life and finding softness amid difficulty. For anyone feeling this way, remember you are not alone—many are quietly fighting through their own challenging seasons, and that shared experience can be a source of comfort and motivation to keep going.
