Survival Mode

3/6 Edited to

... Read moreLiving in survival mode after trauma, especially abuse, profoundly affects both the mind and body. I can personally relate to how the body holds onto trauma long before the conscious mind fully processes it. For years, my body was in a state of constant alert, bracing for sudden emotional upheavals, accusations, and unpredictable shifts, just as described here. The relentless stress and anxiety felt as if I was walking on eggshells, constantly on edge and unable to just stand still or relax. What many don't realize is that this chronic fight-or-flight state physically manifests, causing symptoms like a racing heart, exhaustion, and even illness. It’s not a sign of weakness; rather the body’s desperate cry for peace. Over time, I came to understand that healing is not instant and not linear—it’s a slow unraveling where the mind and body slowly start to come back into alignment. To move beyond survival mode, setting firm boundaries was vital. Protecting my peace meant saying no to toxic influences and creating safe spaces where I could feel secure to process my feelings. Engaging in self-care routines, such as mindful breathing, journaling, and therapy, helped ground me and reduce the overwhelming mental noise. For single parents or anyone recovering from narcissistic abuse, it’s essential to recognize that healing involves reclaiming your sense of truth and self-worth, which were often distorted during the abuse. Joining support communities, whether online or in-person, can provide valuable encouragement and understanding. I have learned that embracing vulnerability and accepting the slow pace of recovery is a strength in itself. Every step away from survival mode is a step toward a more peaceful, present, and empowered life. If you’re on this journey, remember you’re not alone—the healing is real and possible.

🌱Survival Mode (Post 1 of 3)
Living in survival mode isn’t living. It’s reacting. It’s protecting. It’s doing what you have to do, emotionally, physically, mentally, just to make it through the day. Sometimes it looks like high-functioning. Other times it looks like disappearing, but either way, it’s exhausting. If this

What Changed When I Let Go Of Survival Mode✨
