Kenyan runners dominate distance running for a lot of reasons — high-altitude living, strong communities, and an unmatched work ethic.
But one training style shows up again and again in camps from Iten to the Rift Valley…
It’s called Fartlek training — often nicknamed “The Rift Valley Reaper.”
Here’s what it looks like 👇
🟡 Warm-up:
• 10–15 minutes easy
🔥 Main set:
• 1–2–3–4–5–4–3–2–1 minutes ON
• Jog the same time OFF
• ON pace = strong and controlled (around 10K effort)
🟢 Cool down:
• 10–15 minutes easy
Why it works:
• Trains your ability to surge, recover, and go again
• Builds aerobic strength and mental toughness
• Teaches patience, rhythm, and confidence under fatigue
It’s not magic.
It’s not shortcuts.
It’s consistent work done with purpose. 💛
