Three tips for young runners 👇
(What nobody tells you when you start)
1️⃣ Run slower to run more
Easy days should feel almost too easy. That’s how your body learns to handle more miles without breaking down.
2️⃣ Add time before distance
Don’t chase mileage numbers. Add 5–10 minutes to a run instead. Time builds endurance more safely than miles.
3️⃣ End runs feeling like you could keep going
Stopping with fuel left teaches your body that running is safe—and makes the next run feel easier.
Strong mileage isn’t built by pushing harder.
It’s built by stacking smart days. 💛

Starting out as a young runner can be really exciting but also a bit challenging if you don’t know the smartest ways to improve. Something I found super helpful early on was shifting focus from just logging miles to focusing on how my body feels during and after a run. Running slower on easy days really helped me avoid burnout and kept me motivated to run consistently without injury. It’s amazing how adding just a few extra minutes to a run instead of pushing for more miles changed my endurance. This time-based approach lets your body adapt gradually, building a stronger aerobic base safely. Another practice I swear by is stopping runs when I still felt like I could keep going. It felt counterintuitive at first, but ending runs with some energy left means my body learns to handle running comfortably without stressing itself out. This makes the next run less daunting and improves recovery. Plus, pacing yourself and stacking smart training days rather than pushing hard every day made my mileage more sustainable and enjoyable. Remember, strong mileage comes from consistent, intelligent effort rather than always trying to run faster or longer. Finding the right rhythm for your pace and run length tailored to how you feel that day can prevent injuries and build lasting endurance. If you’re just starting, prioritize feeling good during your runs and celebrate small progress. That mindset shift was a game changer and helped me run confidently and build stamina over time.
