Ignoring warm-ups often leads to stiffness and slower starts. Incorporating dynamic stretches like leg swings or lunges before running helped me feel more agile and reduced muscle tightness. Running with tension was something I initially overlooked—clenching fists and tight shoulders consumed more energy than necessary. Learning to relax my hands and shoulders made a big difference; it was as if I could run more effortlessly. I also used to look down while running, which negatively affected my breathing and posture. Focusing my gaze ahead and keeping my chest open improved my oxygen intake and helped maintain a better running form. Lastly, practicing race pace might be intimidating but is crucial. Alternating between easy runs and race pace intervals helped me develop a feel for my sustainable speed, which translated into better race performances. Cleaning up these habits transformed my running experience and can do the same for anyone willing to be mindful about their technique and preparation.
