Strength training for novice runners! 🫶✨

Slow, controlled reps with light weights today. This kind of strength training protects my knees, hips, and core so I can handle higher mileage without breaking down. Running builds endurance, but strength keeps me injury-free and consistent.

... Read moreAs someone who recently started integrating strength training into my running routine, I’ve found that slow, controlled repetitions with light weights make a huge difference in my overall performance and injury prevention. While running builds my endurance, strength training helps stabilize crucial areas like my knees, hips, and core. This balance allows me to gradually increase my weekly mileage without fear of overuse injuries or burnout. Incorporating exercises such as bodyweight squats, lunges, hip bridges, and planks alongside light weightlifting has not only improved my running form but also enhanced my ability to recover quicker after long runs. Paying close attention to technique during these movements ensures that I engage the correct muscles, which is vital for maintaining joint stability. Additionally, focusing on form over speed or heavy loads has reinforced my body’s resilience, reducing the risk of common running injuries like runner’s knee or IT band syndrome. Establishing a routine that emphasizes strength training twice a week has become a cornerstone of my training plan, complementing my running without causing excessive fatigue. Remember, strength training doesn't have to be intimidating or require heavy equipment. Even simple, consistent workouts focusing on controlled reps with light weights can protect your body, improve endurance, and enhance consistency in your running journey. For novice runners, this approach creates a sustainable, balanced fitness routine that supports both immediate progress and long-term health.

Most runners work hard, but not in the right way…👇 1️⃣ When you run every workout too fast You’re not building strength—you’re burning out. 2️⃣ When you skip recovery That’s where your body actually gets faster. 3️⃣ When you never train speed Distance alone won’t take you where you want

Speed doesn’t just come from running more miles…👇 It comes from how much force your legs can produce. That’s why strong runners spend time in the weight room. Here’s why squats help your speed 👇 1️⃣ They build explosive power Every sprint stride requires you to drive the ground back.
