Things therapists think but don’t share

Self-care to Prevent Burnout 🔥

🎶 Habit 1: Blasting Music on the Way Home

💕 Habit 2: Spending time with my Family

👜 Habit 3: Grocery Shopping at Aldi or Target

2025/1/18 Edited to

... Read moreTherapists often carry a heavy load, balancing the emotional weight of their clients' stories with their own personal lives. Common thoughts that go unshared include worries about not talking enough or the fear of failing a client. Many therapists long for a break, expressing desires to spend time with their own families or simply wishing they could escape the office sooner. Self-care practices are vital in maintaining their mental health; for instance, blasting music during commutes provides a mood boost, while grocery shopping at familiar places like Aldi or Target can offer a comforting routine. These small, everyday habits can significantly counteract the dangers of burnout and emotional fatigue. Furthermore, acknowledging their feelings of inadequacy or frustration is essential; therapists are humans too and have their limits. By recognizing these challenges and prioritizing self-care, therapists can be more effective in their roles, ensuring both their well-being and that of their clients.

A title slide on a pink background reads "3 THINGS THERAPISTS DON'T ALWAYS TELL YOU ABOUT HEALING SWIPE" in dark red text, with a white arrow indicating to swipe. The creator is AskCourtney.
The first point states "HEALING WILL HURT MORE THAN THE TRAUMA...AND FOR A WHILE." The text explains that healing can feel worse because you process everything and understand past events differently.
The second point states "YOU'LL LOSE ALMOST EVERYONE IN YOUR LIFE." The text explains that personal change affects relationships, leading others to leave as you set boundaries and become more aware.
3 Things Therapists don’t tell you about Healing
As a trauma counselor, I make sure to inform my clients with as much information as I can. This way when they experience certain situations they aren’t afraid because we’ve already discussed it. I tell them that sometimes healing can hurt more than the trauma itself and that has many layers to it.

People-pleasing in adulthood 🌸🍋🫶🏼
I don’t think people (therapists included) appreciate how much deeper people-pleasing goes than just simply saying no more often. People pleasing is another nervous system response that is celebrated by others because it benefits them and appears to be something “good” or “nice.” If we want to
