A few things I do that make me feel a little more human during my hospital stay 🤍
During my time at Cottage Health, I found that integrating small, intentional practices into my daily hospital routine helped preserve my sense of normalcy and humanity. Simple acts like personal grooming, such as washing my face or brushing my hair, played a significant role in boosting my mood and self-esteem despite being in a clinical setting. Additionally, I brought along a few comforting items from home—a favorite blanket and family photos—which provided emotional warmth and reminders of life beyond the hospital walls. Engaging in light reading or listening to music helped distract me from the sterile environment and made the days feel less monotonous. Connecting with nursing staff on a personal level also made a big difference. Sharing a smile or a kind word fostered a sense of community and support, reminding me that I wasn’t just a patient but a person cared for by others. Finally, mindfulness exercises, including gentle breathing and meditation, contributed to a calmer state of mind and better processing of stress and anxiety related to hospitalization. These small but meaningful strategies can make a significant emotional impact and help anyone adapt to the challenges of a hospital stay.
