Pittsburgh- A Mac Miller Tour
If you’re a Mac Miller fan and find yourself in the Pittsburgh area, one of the best day trips you can take is a mini “Mac Miller Tour” around the city. Pittsburgh, where Mac grew up, has many notable places around the city that inspired his music, often featuring in songs and videos in the earlier days of his career. -Blue Slide Park! The park that inspired the album “Blue Slide Park” is best known for the blue slide that appears on the cover art for the respective album. Part of the video for Frick Park Market was also shot at this section of the park. Taking a trip down the slide or just a walk around the park is such a rush of nostalgia!
-Frick Park Market. This market is so cute and I can see why it was one of Mac’s favorite places to go. The owner is super friendly and loves to talk about Mac. They have a ton of pictures around of him and are knowledgeable about the area, even pointing out an area down the street where the beginning of the “knock knock” music video shot. He also pointed out a notebook for Mac’s mother, Karen, who often comes in and reads the love from fans. The owner then let us step behind the counter to get our picture where Mac had his taken. Such a sweet moment that lets you connect with your idol. The food here is also PHENOMENAL!! I ordered The Lloyd and it’s so good I even try to make it back home in Alaska. This is a 10/10 stop!!
-Fifth Avenue. This street features on “Party on Fifth Ave”, though we didn’t have a real destination while driving on this road, it was more of a “look at that, how cool” moment. Still awesome to drive on!
-Right down the road from Frick Park Market is Frick Park. The park is huge and is nice for strolling or getting out, but Mac fans do have something to look for here (besides the blue slide park). A memorial bench sits in the park and is a nice little destination that isn’t too far in.
-Mac Miller murals. This mural, which we went to see, really encapsulates the love that Pittsburgh had towards Mac Miller. There are signatures all along the wall that show the amount of traffic this portrait gets (though you should not write on it/graffiti it, it was interesting to see). The city truly seems proud to have hosted one of the best musicians of our time, and it shows through the detailed portrait that pays tribute to the late rapper. This mural is a destination for many who take the “mac miller tour” through the city.

Taking a moment to sit on the grassy hill, surrounded by trees, and just absorb the atmosphere where Mac spent so much time as a kid gave me chills. It’s a place of pure, unadulterated nostalgia, and I even saw a few other fans discreetly taking photos, just like me, connecting with that "Blue Slide Park era." Then, Frick Park Market was an absolute highlight. The exterior of Frick Park Market with its brick building and black and white striped awning is so charming. But it's the warmth inside that truly makes it special. Chatting with the owner, who clearly cherishes Mac’s memory, was incredible. He showed me the special spiral notebook filled with handwritten messages from fans, and it was so touching to read the love poured onto those pages. Seeing the framed photo of Mac Miller in a white cap behind the counter made it feel so real. And yes, standing behind the deli counter where Mac himself stood for photos was surreal! Don't forget to ask about "The Lloyd" sandwich—it’s legendary, and the menu board listing meat and cheese prices hints at all the deliciousness. It made me wonder what other simple delights Mac enjoyed here. Driving down Fifth Avenue wasn't about a specific destination, but the feeling. Seeing the blue street sign for "Fifth Ave" with "6900 Homewood 6800" felt like a nod to the past, knowing this was the very street he rapped about. It’s an ordinary street transformed into something iconic by his music. Blasting "Party on Fifth Ave" while cruising through felt like a mandatory part of the experience. The memorial bench in Frick Park is another profoundly moving spot. After leaving Blue Slide Park, a short walk brings you to this quiet tribute. Spotting the wooden park bench with "RIP MAC" carved into its backrest and the small memorial plaque felt like a private moment of reflection. It's a peaceful place to sit, think, and remember. I saw other fans had left small tokens, showing how deeply he's missed. And the Mac Miller murals are a testament to Pittsburgh’s enduring love. The vibrant mural of Mac Miller on a red brick wall, depicting him with one hand partially covering his face, was breathtaking. It's not just art; it's a community shrine. I spent a long time just looking at the details and feeling the respect radiating from it. While I didn't add my own signature, seeing the countless others confirmed how much this city embraced him. These spots aren't just places; they're portals to his legacy. To make your own tour perfect, I highly recommend downloading a few playlists. My screenshot of a music playlist featuring several Mac Miller songs, including "Good News," "2009," and "Jet Fuel," was my soundtrack throughout the day. It truly enhances the whole experience, making every street and every park feel like part of his story.
