🍴: The Coconut Club [RV] 🇸🇬

Food: ⭐️⭐️

Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Interior: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

my first time to The Coconut Club! they have 3 outlets and i visited the River Valley branch.

i came on a media tasting and was hyyyyped for this as i had heard such great reviews from close friends. HOWEVER.... lmao. here we go. *cracks knuckles*

1. Wagyu Beef Roti John - $21 [RV exclusive]

this may be a biased take, but i did not enjoy this. my dining partner however, devoured it. i felt it lacked depth and didn't deliver. it could have been regular minced beef and i wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.

2. Bakwan Jagung - $12

they knocked this out of the park. great tomato sambal pairing and delicious chunks of corn made for a fabulous appetizer.

3. Quail Goreng Berempah - $21 [RV exclusive]

full disclaimer before i rip them a new one : i'm Malaysian. 🥴 secondly, quail is possibly the worst bird to eat because it's so tiny and you can't even enjoy your meal as you're spending 90% of the time de-boning it. the sambal also tasted slightly off and i was frankly quite disappointed. massively regretted not getting the chicken, otah or even the beef rendang nasi lemak instead.

4. Soto Ayam - $18

for $18 i thought it would change my life. unfortunately my life has not changed. in fact it has become worse after eating this. let's move on.

5. Kueh Salat - $9

the aura radiating from this dessert was so insane i started vibrating the second they set it down. absolutely delicious. no notes.

6. Pisang Goreng - $11

bias take again; i'm just not a fried banana girl, nor do i particularly enjoy jackfruit.

💭 final thoughts:

as much as it pains me to leave a nasty review, it has to be done for the sake of transparency. i've also reached out to the agency who invited me to give them my feedback. with that being said, there were some stellar items, so i'm hopeful that there are other gems on the menu. will definitely give them another chance

... Read moreIf you're exploring Singapore River restaurants or looking for unique dining experiences near River Valley, here's some additional insight from my visit to The Coconut Club New Bahru. While some dishes like the Bakwan Jagung offered a delightful burst of flavor with its tomato sambal and sweet corn, others such as the Quail Goreng Berempah didn't quite meet expectations for me, partly because of the challenge in enjoying the quail meat itself and the sambal's off taste. For lovers of nasi lemak, although the rendang options weren't sampled this trip, it's worth noting that many friends rave about the beef rendang nasi lemak, which might be a safer choice than quail if you prefer traditional favorites. The Kueh Salat dessert, with its salted gula melaka ice cream, was a highlight, emitting an irresistible aura and a truly satisfying finish to the meal. One point to consider is that individual taste plays a huge role—while I wasn't a fan of the Wagyu Beef Roti John or the Pisang Goreng with jackfruit ice cream, my dining partner enjoyed the roti John immensely. If fresh green coconuts, unique coconut-infused dishes, or coconut jelly are on your grocery or food list, exploring the Coconut Club's menu could prove an intriguing adventure. For those scouting for excellent picks near Kampong Bahru or New Bahru areas, coupled with a friendly and attentive service experience, The Coconut Club offers a venue worth trying, especially if you’re curious about contemporary takes on local classics. I'll certainly be giving them another chance to discover if there are hidden gems waiting to be uncovered on this evolving menu.

Coconut Club, Beach Road, Singapore.
Must try their nasi lemak, either chicken or beef rendang. Their coconut shake is nice too, not as sweet as those usual coconut shake you find in mall. Either reserve seats or do walk in after 2pm to avoid queuing very long for table. Rating /⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
