My Halloween costume from like 4 years ago
Posting most of my old videos here just so I have them
Hey everyone! So glad you're interested in my old Halloween looks. I was digging through my archives and re-watching some of my favorite costume videos, and I realized I had to share more about my Gold Medusa costume from a few years back. It was such a fun project, and honestly, it’s still one of my proudest DIY creations! If you're thinking of channeling your inner Gorgon, let me break down how I put together my Gold Medusa look without breaking the bank. First, the dress: I found a simple, flowy golden or emerald-green gown at a thrift store. You can easily embellish it with gold fabric paint or glitter glue to add scales or intricate patterns. Don't forget some gold jewelry – chunky necklaces, bracelets, and rings really elevate the ancient goddess vibe. Now, for the iconic snake hair! This is where the real magic happens. I used plastic toy snakes, spray-painted them various shades of metallic gold and bronze, and then hot-glued them onto a headband or an old tiara. For extra effect, I curled some green and black pipe cleaners and intertwined them with the snakes to give more volume and movement. You can even add some small plastic gem eyes to the snakes for a more menacing look! Makeup is crucial for Medusa. I went with a dramatic look, starting with a pale, almost eerie base. Then, I used green and gold eyeshadows to create a smoky, reptilian eye, extending the color towards my temples. Contouring with a darker green or brown can give you that sharp, chiseled Gorgon face. Don't forget a bold lip – a deep red or even a metallic gold can work wonders. And for that extra spooky touch, especially if you want to make it look like you've just turned someone to stone, incorporating fake blood and fake injury effects can be amazing! For Medusa, you could subtly add some fake blood around your mouth or on your hands, as if you've just had a grim encounter. Or, if you want a more general spooky effect for any Halloween costume, I love using a mix of corn syrup, red food coloring, and a tiny bit of chocolate syrup for a realistic, edible fake blood. For injuries, liquid latex and tissue paper can create gruesome wounds, which you then color with makeup and dab with fake blood. It’s all about layering and blending for that realistic gory look! Thinking about DIY group costumes? Medusa fits perfectly into a Greek Mythology theme! Imagine a group with Zeus, Hades, Persephone, and a few fearsome Medusas. Or, you could go for a "Monsters and Myths" theme, pairing Medusa with vampires, witches, and werewolves. Another fun idea is a "Goddesses Gone Wild" theme, where everyone dresses as a different mythological goddess, but with a spooky or modern twist. The possibilities are endless when you start brainstorming with your friends! Just make sure everyone's on board with the DIY spirit to keep costs down and creativity high. It's so much more rewarding to create something unique together.
