Mastering Your Makeup Routine: Setting Spray or Powder First? Now, let's talk about a question that pops up a lot in my DMs: "Do I apply setting spray before or after powder?" This can be a game-changer for how long your makeup lasts and how it looks throughout the day. Generally, my go-to rule is powder first, then setting spray. Here's why: Powder's Role: After applying your liquid makeup (foundation, concealer), powder, applied with a soft makeup brush, helps to set liquid products, absorb excess oil, and reduce shine. It creates a smooth, matte canvas and prevents creasing, especially under the eyes or around the nose. Setting Spray's Role: Once your powder is applied, a setting spray comes in to melt all the layers together, taking away any powdery look and making your makeup appear more natural and skin-like. More importantly, it creates a protective barrier that locks everything in place, helping your look withstand humidity, sweat, and general wear and tear for hours. My Application Technique: Apply your creams/liquids: Foundation, concealer, cream blush, etc. Powder Power: Lightly dust translucent powder over areas you want to set or where you tend to get oily (T-zone, under eyes). If you're doing more targeted powder like baking, do that now. Final Touches & Spray: Finish with any powder blushes, bronzers, or highlighters. Then, hold your setting spray about 8-10 inches from your face and mist it evenly in an 'X' and 'T' motion.
