Ended the day at a little over 100g of protein so I would call that a success for me ✨
I don’t restrict myself from eating what I want but I do think about portions and swapping ingredients that can help make what I am eating lower calorie if I have the option. I try not to obsess because I don’t want to stress out my body. If i am hungry, I make sure to eat!
My goal is to lean out while building muscle and still be realistic with my eating habits. When you have hashimotos it adds another layer but I’m happy with my results so far 🤍
Managing nutrition with Hashimoto’s disease indeed requires thoughtful consideration, especially when aiming to lean out and build muscle simultaneously. One strategy I’ve found helpful is focusing on protein quality and distribution throughout the day to support muscle repair without overwhelming my system. In addition to prioritizing a daily protein goal (like hitting around 100g), choosing gluten-free protein sources like quinoa, legumes, lean meats, and plant-based proteins helps reduce inflammation, which is critical when dealing with autoimmune conditions such as Hashimoto’s. Incorporating a variety of colorful vegetables and healthy fats also supports overall hormonal balance and energy levels. Portion control doesn’t mean restriction—it’s about balance. Swapping high-calorie ingredients for lower-calorie but nutrient-dense alternatives can make meals more satisfying without excess calories. For example, using cauliflower rice instead of white rice or Greek yogurt as a creamy topping instead of sour cream adds nutrition without bloat or excess carbs. A key takeaway is to listen to your body’s hunger cues instead of obsessing over every calorie or nutrient. Stress management plays a pivotal role because stress can exacerbate thyroid issues. Eating mindfully and allowing yourself the foods you enjoy in moderation fosters a positive relationship with food, which is essential for long-term success. Finally, combining dietary strategies with consistent strength training enhances muscle growth and metabolism. For those with Hashimoto’s, collaborating with healthcare providers to monitor thyroid levels and adjust diet and activity as needed completes the holistic approach to health and fitness goals.
