You’re telling me we work until we die???
I always say things like sometimes you just need a little bit of this, a little bit of that. But one thing I wish I could do without is working 40+ hours per week for the next 20+ years because I’m tiredddd 😂😭
I know I shouldn’t complain. I’m lucky to have a job and the ability to do so, but the burn out is real.
So I wrote down a few things for a quick reset that I think you’ll find useful as well ☺️💛✨
🌿 Step away from your screen for 5–10 mins to reset your brain.
☕ Take a mindful coffee/tea break—no emails, just you. (Actually take your breaks!)
🚶♀️ Go for a short walk or stretch between tasks.
🎶 Listen to music or a podcast that energizes you.
⏰ Set clear start & stop times for work (and actually log off)
💬 Talk it out—share with a friend, coworker, or professional if it feels overwhelming.
What are some ways you fight off burn out??
Okay, let's be real for a moment. That heavy feeling of looking at your calendar and realizing it’s ‘work 40+ hours per week for the next 20+ years’ can be incredibly daunting, right? My mind often screams, ‘Just kidding, sometimes you just need a vacation!’ But what happens when a big escape isn't on the cards, and you still need to find a way to recover from burnout while still working? I’ve been there, feeling utterly drained but knowing I can't just drop everything. The quick resets I shared are a great start, but getting through burnout when your schedule is packed requires a deeper dive into self-care and boundary-setting. Let's explore a few more ways I've learned to navigate this. First, let's talk about those mindful breaks. It's not just about stepping away from your screen for 5-10 mins; it’s about making that time truly count. Instead of just scrolling on your phone, try focusing on a simple sensory experience. Really savor your coffee, notice the texture of your mug, listen to the sounds outside your window, or do a quick guided meditation. These micro-moments can be powerful anchors, pulling you back to the present and away from the mental loop of work. Another big one for me has been the art of saying ‘no’ or ‘not yet.’ This was incredibly hard at first! When you’re already working 40+ hours, taking on more can push you over the edge. Learning to politely decline extra tasks, delegate when possible, or ask for more realistic deadlines is crucial. Remember, protecting your energy isn't selfish; it's a necessity for sustained performance and well-being. You can’t pour from an empty cup, no matter how much you wish you could. Beyond just setting clear start and stop times, I've found it essential to create a ritual that signals the end of my workday. Maybe it's a specific song I listen to on my commute home, changing into comfy clothes immediately, or doing a quick tidy of my workspace. This helps my brain transition from 'work mode' to 'personal time' and prevents work thoughts from spilling into my evenings. It's about physically and mentally logging off, not just closing your laptop. Also, consider how you’re fueling your body. When I’m burnt out, healthy eating and good sleep are often the first things to go. But prioritizing nourishing meals and aiming for consistent sleep, even if it's just an extra 30 minutes, can dramatically impact your resilience. Your body and mind need proper fuel to cope with the demands of a busy work week. And make sure you're still connecting with friends or family who aren't in your work bubble – their different perspectives and emotional support are invaluable. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and finding these small, sustainable ways to recover while still showing up, makes all the difference.
