Kreg 20V Ionic Drive™ 6 1/2” Plunge-Cut Track Saw
Today I am using the Kreg 20V Ionic Drive™ 6 1/2" Plunge-Cut Track Saw Kit for the first time. This is part of the new cordless series of tools that Kreg just came out with. This is a great system for cutting things away from a standard power outlet.
I am using it to cut the pieces for a tray that will go under a tool I already have to create some more storage. I plan on taking this saw to the home center when I get more sheet goods so I can cut them into smaller pieces in the parking lot if needed.
Building on my initial experience with the Kreg 20V Ionic Drive™ 6 1/2" Plunge-Cut Track Saw, I've had a chance to really put it through its paces beyond just my first project. What truly stands out about this tool, as mentioned, is its incredible portability. The freedom a cordless track saw like this Kreg model offers is genuinely a game-changer for anyone working in a small shop, or like me, who sometimes needs to process sheet goods right in the driveway or even at the home center. No more wrestling with extension cords, tripping hazards, or worrying about finding an outlet in a remote workspace! This alone significantly boosts efficiency and safety. The 'Ionic Drive™' aspect is clearly designed for efficiency and power, and it consistently delivers. Even on dense plywood and various hardwoods, the cuts feel remarkably smooth and consistent, leaving a finish that often requires minimal sanding. The plunge-cut mechanism is incredibly intuitive, making it easy to start cuts anywhere on a workpiece, not just from the edge. This was super helpful when I was cutting out the intricate interior pieces for my storage tray – it offered precise and controlled results every single time. And the accuracy? Paired with the Kreg track system, it’s spot on. Setting up the track was straightforward, and the anti-slip strips held it firmly in place, which is absolutely crucial for achieving clean, laser-straight cuts. An often-overlooked but critical feature in tool reviews is dust collection, and I was pleasantly surprised here. The Kreg saw has a well-designed dust port that, when hooked up to a decent shop vac, significantly reduces airborne dust and keeps the cutting line clear. This is a huge plus for maintaining a cleaner workspace and for personal health, especially when working with materials that generate a lot of fine particles. Battery life has also been impressive. I’ve been able to complete several demanding cuts for various small to medium-sized projects on a single charge with the 20V battery, which speaks volumes about the efficiency of the Kreg cordless platform. It’s comforting to know I can tackle a good chunk of work without interruption or the constant need to recharge. For anyone considering stepping up their cutting game, especially if you deal with sheet goods regularly or need precision on the go, this Kreg saw is definitely worth a look. It offers the precision of a high-quality table saw for cross-cuts and rips, but in a much more compact, versatile, and mobile package. I'm finding it an indispensable tool for breaking down large panels into manageable sizes, which not only saves time and effort but also makes handling much safer. My initial idea of taking it to the home center to cut down full sheets of plywood or MDF before even bringing them home is something I wholeheartedly plan to do now – it saves so much hassle. It’s truly built for practical, everyday shop tasks and beyond, proving to be a robust addition to my tool arsenal. The overall build quality feels solid and durable, typical of Kreg tools, giving me confidence it will stand up to regular, demanding use for years to come. If you're looking for a reliable, precise, and highly portable cutting solution that won't tie you down to an outlet, this Kreg Cordless Track Saw truly excels.
