Surfprep 3”x4” ProFoam sanding pads
I'm rounding over the edges on this cherry Millennium Falcon catch all tray using a 1/4" roundover bit on the SawStop router table. It really cleans up the edge and gives it a much nicer feel.
Then I'm using the Surfprep 3"x4" ProFoam sanding pads to clean up all of the surfaces outside of the Falcon carving.
When working on woodworking projects like my cherry Millennium Falcon catch all tray, surface preparation is key to achieving a professional finish. After rounding over the edges with a 1/4" roundover bit on the SawStop router table, I found that the Surfprep 3"x4" ProFoam sanding pads were excellent for smoothing the surfaces that surrounded the Falcon carving. These sanding pads are designed with firm foam backing that conforms well to both flat and contoured surfaces, allowing for consistent sanding without gouging. In my experience, using these pads helped maintain the tray’s delicate details while efficiently removing any tool marks left from routing. The foam gives just enough flexibility so that sanding is thorough but gentle, which is crucial when working with cherry wood, known for its fine grain and susceptibility to scratches. Pairing Surfprep sanding pads with the right grit sequence can greatly reduce the time spent hand-sanding and produce a flawless surface ready for finishing. In addition, the pads are compatible with common sanding tools, making them versatile for different stages of the project. I appreciated how they enhanced the feeling of the rounded edges after routing, giving the tray a smooth, refined touch that elevates the overall quality. For anyone looking to improve their woodworking finish, especially on pieces with detailed carvings or rounded profiles, investing in ProFoam sanding pads like these can make a significant difference. Overall, combining quality router bits like the 1/4" roundover with suitable sanding accessories like Surfprep ProFoam pads leads to superb results. It's a rewarding process that not only improves the look but also the tactile experience of handmade wood items.
