10K day 🏃🏽♀️💜✨
Not gonna lie, I was nervous going into this run.
But babyyyyy… I DID THAT 😭👏🏽
6.2 miles.
Almost the entire thing ran.
Only about 5 minutes of walking.
And somehow I finished about 10+ minutes faster than my last 10K training run 🥹✨
The best part?
Two years ago I was over 230 lbs heavier and could never have imagined running 6.2 miles.
Today I did exactly that.
Feeling grateful.
Feeling strong.
Feeling proud 💜
Running a 10K is a significant milestone for anyone, especially after undergoing a major life transformation such as losing over 230 lbs. When I first started my running journey, I was overwhelmed with self-doubt and physically limited by my weight. However, setting small, achievable goals and gradually increasing my distance helped me build endurance and confidence. I tracked my runs with Strava, which showed me my pace of 15:48 per mile and a total time of 1 hour and 38 minutes for 6.22 miles, which motivated me further. One of the toughest parts was balancing running with proper nutrition and rest, which are equally important in supporting such an intense activity. Incorporating walking intervals initially and focusing on consistent training improved my ability to run longer stretches without stopping. What helped me emotionally was joining online communities like #10KTraining and #WomenWhoRun, where sharing progress and setbacks provided encouragement. The most rewarding feeling emerged from surpassing my previous training times by over 10 minutes, realizing my body’s amazing capacity to adapt and grow stronger. If you're on a similar path, remember it’s okay to take it slow—every step forward counts. Celebrate your efforts, regardless of pace, and acknowledge the incredible journey your body has already completed.
