POV: you get the meds right

1/15 Edited to

... Read moreTaking the right medication can be a turning point in managing mental health, especially when it impacts creative expression. I relate deeply to the fear of losing one’s 'sparkle' when starting meds, but my experience has shown me that finding the right balance can actually restore your ability to create and enjoy life again. I struggled for months without being able to paint, which was frustrating because painting birds in watercolor has always been a source of joy and calm for me. The moment my medication was adjusted correctly, not only did my mood improve, but my artwork also started flowing again. It was a weird but wonderful feeling to see colors and shapes emerge on paper after such a dry spell. For anyone hesitant about medication, I want to stress that it’s okay to be cautious, but also remember that sometimes meds can be a tool to help you heal and reconnect with your passions. Mental health is truly a journey, and with patience and support, the right treatment can lead to small, positive victories that build momentum. Using hashtags like #impaintingeverybird, #birdartist, and #watercolorbird has helped me join a community of creatives who share similar experiences and inspiration. Engaging with others on this journey reinforces that we’re not alone, and art can be a powerful part of recovery. If you’re going through something similar, try to be gentle with yourself and open to the possibilities that treatment might offer. It took me some time, but now that I’m moving forward, I appreciate how even imperfect progress is still progress and a step towards reclaiming my creative spark.

Okay besties… let’s talk ADHD meds. I’ve been on Adderall, and while it’s been life changing for my ADHD, it definitely comes with side effects. For me, the biggest ones are a suppressed appetite (sometimes I forget to eat), a higher heart rate, and feeling a little too wired/awake at times. But
