Registry Must-Haves (2 months later)
So, you or someone you love is having a baby and you want to know what other moms have deemed a must-have? Hi, I’m Kaylen, a first time mom to a miracle baby boy who is now 8 weeks old. These are the items I’ve used the most in the last two months.
1) Our diaper bag! We love the itzy ritzy! It wipes clean, opens wide, and has a ton of room. It’s very sturdy and comfortable. I’ll never use another brand again! Some advice: never pay full price! Unless it’s a limited color run, if you know you want it just wait for a sale. They’re always having them. I got mine second hand on marketplace, also a great way to save.
2) Boppy! Duh! I remember my mom using one for my baby sister back in 2006! They’re the best! Great for nursing and for playing! They’re pretty inexpensive but they’re at consignment stores all the time.
3) Hatch to-go! A portable sound machine that easily attaches to the car seat, stroller, anywhere you have those linking rings! We even use ours at night. It takes a USB-C charger but one charge lasts hours and hours. My sweet baby hates getting in the car seat. He’s fine once he’s in there and settled but hates the transition, this helps a lot with that.
4) Clear pouches! We use the pictured itzy ritzy pouch for his pacifier but inside the diaper bag we also use clear zipper pouches for things like a change of clothes, burp cloths and wash rags, and gas drops with a syringe. That way you don’t end up digging through and unzipping a million things to find what you’re looking for.
5) Bassinets! We use the Newton at home and take the Fischer Price dome everywhere. The Newton is awesome since we can raise the head and lower the feet so he’s sleeping at an incline. His pediatrician recommended it actually! It’s helped his reflux a ton and he spits up way less frequently. The FP dome is very convenient for taking to grandma’s! I’m very strict about ABC’s of safe sleep (alone, back, crib) so this is perfect when we’re at big gatherings and he needs a safe place to be put down.
6) Halo Sleepsack swaddle! I’m terrible at traditional swaddling, which is a shame since we got no less than 30 swaddling blankets at our showers. He always breaks loose and it’s never tight enough. After baby’s NICU stay (he’s okay now!) they gave us one of these to take home. Man, this saved our sleep! Easy to use and he sleeps like a baby (lol) every time we put it on him. Remember, discontinue swaddles once baby can roll over. Thankfully, this kind also can be used as a sleep sack, just leave baby’s arms free. I forgot to add it but also the Kyte baby sleep sack. That way he can self soothe with his hands.
7) Echo Glow! We just needed a light that can change colors so we can use it for bright, white light as needed but also could be red for nighttime feedings and diaper changes to keep baby drowsy so he’ll go back to sleep afterwards. I think the glow works for us since we have a bunch of echos around the house but really I’d recommend any LED lights that can be controlled through the phone. I wouldn’t recommend anything that comes with a remote because most of them take coin/button batteries and I’d rather not have those in the house at all.
9) Warmie! My mom got this for us at the hospital gift shop and we love it. It’s weighted with fennel and dried lavender (not lavender essential oil) and helps keep baby cozy. We like to snuggle it up to his belly if he’s gassy, the heat helps. We also use it to warm his bassinet and car seat before putting him in them so he’s never shocked by the cold. He also loves to pet it! It’s the sweetest thing. Great for training him to pet the dogs/cat, which he’s not quite ready for.
