I exposed a monster, survived the fallout, and I’m telling the truth nobody wants to hear about what comes after. #truestories #dvsurvivor💜 #csasurvivor #csaawareness #19kidsandcounting
After going through such a traumatic experience and exposing a predator, the struggle doesn't end with the conviction or sentencing. One harsh reality I’ve faced is how short some sentences are and the shock that comes with realizing the predator might still have opportunities to harm others. For me, watching what my ex-husband was sentenced for and seeing how quickly and leniently he got out was a painful awakening. The fight continues beyond the courtroom, especially when custody battles come into play. It’s a nightmare knowing that someone capable of harm could try to gain custody of children again. The fear isn’t just for yourself but for all the children who might become victims. I’ve had to process fears and nightmares that won’t easily go away. Even when you think you’ve survived, the emotional aftermath can make it feel like you’re losing a moment’s peace every single day. I learned firsthand that the justice system isn’t always enough to provide real safety and closure. Survivors often face additional battles after a conviction, including emotional trauma and societal stigma. Sharing my story and advocating for stronger protective measures for survivors and children is crucial. Awareness and support can help break cycles of abuse and protect innocent lives. If you are a survivor, remember that healing is a journey, and you are not alone. There are communities and resources ready to support you. It’s important to speak out, share your truth, and fight for justice and safety, no matter how difficult the road ahead seems.
